The Hobart Ames Memorial field trials began Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Ames Plantation field trial course, Grand Junction, Tenn. Thirty dogs were drawn for the Open All-Age and twelve for the Open Derby. The judges were Larry Garner of Oak Point, Texas and Ronnie Miller of Van Buren, Arkansas.
The Open All-Age was concluded on Wednesday, January 10, with the naming of the winners. First was Cole Train, white and black pointer male coming five, owned and handled by Dr. Fred Corder of Corinth, Miss.
Second was Las Animas Fancy, white and liver pointer female coming three, owned by Dale E. Bush of College Station, Texas, and handled by Larry Huffman. Third was Misty Morn Masked Man, white and orange pointer male owned by handled by Joe McAlexander of Holly Springs, Mississippi.
The one-hour Derby drew twelve dogs and handler Ike Todd won the top two placements, first with Touch’s Gallatin Fire and second with Touch’s Malcom Story. Both white and orange pointer males are owned by Alex Rickert of Bozeman, Mont. Third was Button Up, fifteen-month old pointer female owned by Pat and Julie Roach of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and handled by Steve Hurdle.
A bit of precipitation came on opening day, and balmy temperatures prevailed for the final morning, but overall conditions were favorable.
