Livestock shows are a big part, nationally, of 4-H, and that is also true here in Weakley County, Tennessee. On June 4-5, 2021 the Western Region 4-H Horse Show was held at the UT Martin Ag Arena in Weakley County. On Friday were the speed events, and on Saturday the Western, Ranch, and Trail classes took place. As someone who is new to horse shows, I attended to watch and learn.

The speed events are timed and the riders who complete the course the fastest with the least mistakes are placed higher. Based on the sentiments from the audience members it was easy to see that the speed events were the highlight of the evening.

For the Western and Ranch divisions, exhibitors are judged on how well their horse remains calm and at a steady gait.
For the Trail division several obstacles are set up in the arena for the rider to guide their horse through and they are judged on how well they complete it.

The 4-Hers who represented Weakley County at this event were: Ainsley Chandler placed fourth in Jr. Western Pleasure and was in the top ten in all her classes. Josie Muzzall placed second in Halter Mares and was in the top five in all her classes. Jema Muzzall took home first in Halter Mares and placed in the top five in all her classes. Gabriella Bullard took home first place in Jr. Western Showmanship and also placed in the top five in all her classes.

Kami Thomas took home the High Point Award, which is given to the exhibitor who had the highest placings in all the classes. Congratulations to Kami for this well-deserved award! Congratulations to all our horse show exhibitors!
