Tennessee High School Rodeo Association (TNHSRA) invited Kentucky High School Rodeo to compete in a challenge rodeo at UT Martin, Martin, Tennessee on May 1-2, 2021. Anytime these associations come together, it is always full of friendly competition as well as comradery. The weekend began with an open 4D barrel race Friday night, showing a great turnout. Tennessee’s Ali Covey had the fastest time of the night with 13.588 seconds on the clock, followed by Kenzley Wilson, James Denton, Keilee Garton, Ashley Teems, and Taylor Dunlap.
Saturday morning began with Slack, followed by some free time, and, later, great competition in the main performance at 6 p.m. The night ended with a fun tennis ball fundraiser, in which the winner won a one-of-a-kind “Trump” cooler.
Following the rodeo, contestants got to dress down for a kick ball game that has been coined the Battle of the Boot. Unfortunately, Team Tennessee had to give up their coveted boot trophy to Kentucky, but will be ready to battle it out at their next joint rodeo.
Sunday began with Cowboy Church and Coach John Luthi bringing the message. Tennessee then hosted another smoothly run rodeo, with points tallying for Tennessee and Kentucky to see who would win the Challenge Trophy. The Tennessee team came out the winners, handily beating the Kentucky team.
