Lucky Dog Productions was back in the mid-south with fast barrel racing action in the cool arena in Tunica, Mississippi on September 6-8 for the 9th annual Tyler Parten Memorial with $12,000 added money. This show included the $10,000 Future Fortunes Open Bonus. As at the show in Memphis, Friday was the day to wear red to remember everyone deployed.
The Tyler Parten Memorial honors the memory of 1st Lt. Tyler Parten and is in remembrance of 9/11. “We will never forget the lives lost on that day, nor the brave soldiers like Tyler who gave their lives defending us from such terrorism in the years that followed,” Christy Lewis wrote.
First Lieutenant Tyler Parten was killed on September 10, 2009 in Afghanistan. Tyler grew up in Marianna, Arkansas, graduated from Marianna Lee Academy High School, and graduated in the top ten percent of his class at West Point in 2007. He had served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and died in Konar province after being wounded when insurgents attacked his unit with rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. He was a scout platoon leader on the mission in which he died.
