Drive Electric Earth Day is a national campaign to share information about electric vehicles (EVs) throughout the month of April, promoting the benefits of EVs through both in-person and virtual events.
Tennessee Tech University, the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition, and Drive Electric Tennessee (DET) hosted an outdoor, socially distanced Drive Electric Earth Day EV Showcase and Ride & Drive on April 17, 2021 in Cookeville, Tenn. This event featured a variety of EVs on display and offered attendees the chance to take a ride in all-electric powered vehicle. Participants could learn about and experience the benefits that EVs have to offer and hear from current EV owners on what owning and driving one is like.
DET held additional Drive Electric Earth Day events in Bristol on April 17and in Kingsport on Earth Day, April 22. All events took place outside and adhered to CDC guidelines for COVID-safety.
In addition, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and the Natural Resources Defense Council hosted a Virtual Earth Week EV Ride & Drive event on April 24. This virtual event featured special guest race car driver Leilani Münter. Attendees experienced a demonstration of Münter’s own EV and heard why she’s an advocate for electric transportation powered by clean energy.
