More and more barrel racers are wearing safety helmets. At this show, most children and quite a few adults were wearing safety helmets to protect their noggins and prevent traumatic brain injury. The U.S. Pony Club Safety Handbook says, “Wearing an approved helmet every ride, every time is the smart thing to do,” especially in case of falls from horseback.
High money winners in Open and Youth received a commemorative buckle. There were 74 entries in the Open, with Cassie Brunson taking first in the 1D on Tye (time: 14.724).
The girl who fell with her horse was OK; both her and her horse were OK, Gary said.
