The Tennessee Valley Paso Fino Horse Association (TVPFHA) held its annual horse show at the MTSU Tennessee Livestock Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on August 16-17, 2019. More than sixty horses from seven states attended this year’s event.

This was a double point PRHA/USEF show – two complete shows, so folks could get maximum qualifying points for the 2019 Grand National Championship this month, September 16-21 in Perry, Georgia. On Friday August 16, judges were Nicholal Burgos and Jesica Hurni and on Saturday August 17, judges were Derek Fernandez and Alex Zapata.

This year the show honored two of TVPFHA’s longtime members and volunteers - Hollis Gammon and Moira Smith.  Hollis Gammon of Jamestown, Tenn., was a successful businessman, a Rotatrian, and an active member of his church. Gammon passed away in May 2019.

Moira Judas Smith, of Bell Buckle, Tenn., was a respected French teacher at the Webb School and a prominent member of the Paso Fino Horse Association at the national and regional levels. Moira, who passed away in November 2018, was one of the founding members of TVPFHA.

This year, Gwen and Steve Costner of Bybee, Tenn. donated trophies in their memory to the winners of various championship classes.  Of particular interest was the establishment of the Hollis Gammon Challenge Trophy, which was awarded to the high point Pleasure Amateur Mare/Filly from the show. This year’s winner was Insignia de Monte Verde, owned by Lee Ann Williams-Maley of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.

The Tennessee Valley Paso Fino Horse Association is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing the Paso Fino breed. Since 1982, the mission of the association has been to expand the versatility of this naturally gaited breed, and to provide opportunities for riders to experience the smoothest ride in the world.
