The weather gods smiled favorably on the West Tennessee Quarter Horse Association (WTQHA) Summer Circuit, July 28-30, 2017, held at the Show Place Arena in Memphis, Tenn. In the week prior to the show temperatures in the Memphis area had been around 100°F with heat indexes well above 100°F. But Thursday and Friday brought some welcome rain and a front came through bringing lower temperatures and lower humidity. What a relief! Folks could show in some very pleasant weather!
Judges for the show were Mike Hoeppner, Michael Ochetto, Mark Russell, Clark Scoggin, Keith Longacre, and Debra Jones-Wright. This was the second of dual-point shows with Mid-South Quarter Horse Association, the first being the Mid-South QHA Circuit June 30-July 2, 2017 in Tunica, MS. The show offered a $375 flat fee for one horse, one stall, and all judge fees.
This show featured a Pro-Am Trail Extravaganza with over $3,000 added. With $100 entry fee for the Pro/Am team, the class promised 75% payback. Team combinations consisted of one horse with a Pro/Am rider or a Pro/Youth rider, and the horse/rider combination had to be the same for all classes and show before all six judges. Scores were combined for the overall placings. AQHA rules governed the WTQHA Trail Extravaganza. WTQHA also had a Calcutta of the Pro-Am teams. Dr. Kyle Sanders was the winner of the 50/50 Calcutta.
Pro-Am Trail Extravaganza Team winners were: First: Barry Bolton/Al Fenger and The Cowboy Code, taking home $1,725 plus a trophy and platter.
Second: Mary Bess Woodruff and Shades Of Gold, taking home $862.50 and a trophy.
Third: Sabrina Turner & Suddengotnosneakers, taking home $517.50 and a WTQHA stall bag.
This show also offered $250 to the Youth & Amateur WTQHA member who showed in the most classes (same horse and rider team). To qualify, the rider must show in halter and western pleasure or ranch riding under all judges. In the Youth Division, Zach McCarver and MS Red Devil were the $250 winners. In the Amateur Division, the winner was Dr. Katherine Draughon and Absolute Purple Haze.
All-Around Circuit Award winners received a monogrammed halter with a lead rope. Circuit winners were:

Amateur Select Division: Dr. Ellen Deming Jumper, DVM & Because Ima Diva
