The competition at the 10th annual Nutrena-sponsored USEA American Eventing Championships (AEC) began on September 26, 2013 with sunny skies greeting competitors coming to Tyler, Texas for the Advanced, Intermediate, Preliminary, Training, Novice and Beginner divisions.
More than 430 horses arrived from 36 states, including Maine, Washington, Colorado, Florida, Arizona, California, New York, Idaho, Ohio, Illinois, Maryland, Georgia and New Hampshire. Texas was well represented by over 120 riders.
Dressage began with the Training, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced divisions on Thursday, September 26, followed by Dressage for Novice and Beginner Novice on Friday, September 27.
Training, Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced division competitors rode cross county, starting at 8 am on Friday, September 27. Cross Country rides continued on Saturday, September 28 with Novice and Beginner Novice.
Show Jumping competition got underway on Saturday, September 28 with Training, Preliminary, and Intermediate divisions showing in Ring 1. The Adequan-sponsored USEA Gold Cup Advanced Championship Show Jumping was scheduled to start on Saturday afternoon, but due to a severe thunderstorm Saturday night, the Advanced show jumping was rescheduled for early Sunday morning, September 29. The final Show Jumping rides were the Novice and Beginner Novice divisions, also on Sunday.
The USEA Gold Cup Advanced Championship and USEF National Open Horse Trial Championship Awards were presented on Sunday, with Laine Ashker and Anthony Patch officially becoming the 2013 USEF Advanced Champions, the Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series Champions, and $20,000 richer. Ashker and “Al” put in one of only three double-clear show jumping rounds in the division of 13.
The American Eventing Championships provide a unique opportunity for qualified juniors, adult amateurs, and professionals to compete for the chance to be named the best in the nation at their respective levels and vie for a piece of the over $90,000 in prize money and $100,000 worth of prizes.
