The Interscholastic Equine Association (IEA) show at the Jaeckle Centre in Thompson’s Station, Tenn., brought in seven teams from Tennessee and Alabama. The show was large, with 70 competitors putting in 110 rides during the weekend of January 14-15, 2017. This was the first year for the Jaeckle Centre to host an IEA competition, and plans are to host it again next year. At this Hunt Seat show, horses were provided by the Jaeckle Centre, other teams, and Moorehead State University hauled in horses for the competition.
The IEA gives students in Middle and High School, grades 6 – 12, the opportunity to compete on horses they have not ridden before, in both Hunt Seat and Western disciplines. This program is modeled after the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), which has been around for 25 years; the IEA is going into its 15th year. Tennessee is in IEA Zone 4, which also includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina. Competitors from this show will gain points toward competing at Regionals. IEA Western shows are held at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN and at Last Lap Ranch in Maryville, TN. See the Western show schedule at: http://www.rideiea.org/zone4/western-calendar.html Zone 4 Finals for both disciplines will be held March 11-12, 2017 at Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) in Tryon, NC.
The Jaeckle Centre team won both the High School and Middle School divisions, earning 7 team points and advancing to Regionals, which will be February 18, 2017 in Jackson, Miss. Also, seven Jaeckle Center riders qualified individually to complete at Regionals. On the High School team, qualifiers are Grace Allison, Malancy Bagwell, Kate Checuga, and Lexi White. On the Middle School team, qualifiers are Gabel Gawthorpe, Orrin Krebs, and Ava Lindley.
In the High School team competition, the CF Topflight team, from Murfreesboro, Tenn., was second, earning 5 team points. The team from Anchor Way Farm, of Piney Flat, Tenn., was third. Team Need A Hand, from Murfreesboro, was fourth. The Horse Quarters team, from Murfreesboro, was fifth, and the Arrow Hill Farm team, from Thompson’s Station, was sixth. The Sycamore Hills team, from Nashville, did not place.
In the Middle School competition, Horse Quarters Farm team was second; CF Topflight team was third; Arrow Hill Farm team was fourth; and Sycamore Hills team was fifth. Find detailed results of the show at: http://www.rideiea.org/show-results.html
The Jaeckle Centre will continue to have an IEA team next year. Show season begins in the fall, around the time that school starts, so interested riders can contact the Jaeckle Centre about team participation. The Jaeckle Centre’s IEA team coach is Michelle Zimmer.
