It’s time to plan for summer camp!  You can spend days, and even nights, following your passion to ride and learn about your equine friends. There are many summer horseback riding camps offered in the mid-south area. Following is a sampling of horse-related camp activities, listed in alphabetical order. Aintree Farms Pony Camp has been a tradition in Germantown, TN since 1992. The camp is a wonderful experience your child will never forget. Geared for the beginner to the novice rider, ages 4 and up, Aintree pony camp will teach your child basic horsemanship skills both on and off the horse. Sessions for 2013 are June 10-14, June 24-28, and July 8-12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $375/week. Daily activities include an hour lesson with professional staff on safe school horses, horsey arts and crafts, and creative learning about horsemanship and barn etiquette. Campers can swim at the end of the day in the neighborhood pool. Camp week concludes with a horse show where campers can show off their new skills for their parents. Autumn Chase Farm offers 4 weeks of camps for 2013: June 17-21; June 24-28; July 1-5; and July 8-12, 9 am – 3 pm daily. All campers will have a riding lesson every day, as well as horse care lessons, trail rides, games, crafts and more. Their rider education program spotlights safety, understanding, and fun. Back 9 Farms, near Jackson, TN, offers summer camp for all horse crazy kids, with indoor and outdoor arenas, allowing separate areas for different experience levels. All activities revolve around horses with much time in the saddle on well-trained camp horses, and activities teaching horsemanship, grooming, safety, and horsekeeping skills. Cowpoke Camp is half days for riders ages 4 - 8, May 28 - 31 ($110). General Horsemanship Camp is for all ages & levels of riders: June 3-7, June 10 - 14, June 24 - 28 ($200). Advanced Camp focuses on high levels of horsemanship and includes activities such as Extreme Cowboy Races, Donkey Penning and Trail Riding: July1,2,3,&5 ($200). Blue Ribbon Riding Academy, 439 E. Sowell Rd., Canton, MS offers horse camp for all ages 4 and up. Blue Ribbon camps expose children to horses, or sharpen existing riding skills. There’s lots of ride time and a horseshow every Friday. Camp dates are  June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, and July29-Aug2 from 8:30 to 2:45. Early drop-off can be arranged. BrewerEquestrian Center: 448 Country Road, Shannon, MS (near Tupelo, MS). BEC offers two camp opportunities:  their ever-popular Beginner Summer Camp experience and a camp opportunity for more advanced riders/jumpers. Beginner Riding Horse Camp is June 10-14, ages 7-12; limited to 10 campers. Jumping Boot Camp is July 15-19. Camp of the Rising Son, French Camp, MS:  For ages 13-17, Horse Camp is July 15-20.  Horse Camp offers a variety of horse activities and lessons for all levels of horse lovers! Campers can explore over 300 acres on horseback and learn horse-handling skills as well as vaulting - gymnastics on horseback. Horse Campers will also enjoy meals on the trail, an overnighter, Bible studies,  crafts and time in Lake Anne. Campers can ride in a covered arena on bad weather days. At the end of the week, parents and friends are invited to watch campers demonstrate their newly learned skills in the Closing Rodeo. Camp Sycamore Hills, Ashland City, TN will be hosting a variety of week-long horse camps in June and July for various ages and levels of experience, from third grade to twelfth grade. Campers learn about grooming, basic horse care, and beginner-level riding in Filly Fun, hit the trails in Pony Tails & Hiking Trails, learn to jump in Jumping I and II, or sharpen their Western and English skills in Sycamore Saddlers. Cedar Wind Farm, Oxford MS, in conjunction with  Delta Dressage Association, offers  Dressage and Eventing Camp June 13-16 for ages  9 to adult. Falcon Ridge Farm, 22630 Highway 18 North, Toone, TN. Camp dates are June 17-19 and July 15-17 from 9 am-3 pm daily.  The camp is available to those 6-16 years old. The focus of the camp is the basics of horsemanship, riding, and grooming.  There are hay rides, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, and more.  Camps are $200/week with a $50 deposit. Fair Meadow Farm offers two hunter/jumper “All About Horses” Camps, sponsored by  Oak Crest Farm Germantown TN. The first camp is at Fair Meadow Farms 5610 Forrest Hill Irene Rd., Germantown, TN, June 10- 13, 8:00 am to 1:00pm, for chidren starting at age 6. The second Camp is at 1576 Riverdale Rd., Germantown, June 25-28, 9:00am to 2:30 pm, for children starting at age 7. Each camp is geared for the beginner to intermediate camper, teaching all aspects of horsemanship plus the joy of being with horses. Advanced classes are also available. Each day includes a lesson on horseback and a lesson on horse care with campers working their way toward awards for their acquired knowledge of horsemanship and riding skills. Fellowship of the Hoof, 8585 Hwy 301N, Lake Cormorant, MSoffers basic horsemanship and riding for ages 8-18 with Instructor Lisa Sparks. Fisherville Farms,1825 N. Collierville-Arlington Road, Eads, TN offers full day and partial day camps for varying age groups. Camps are small and campers have one-to-one interaction with staff. G and G Farms, Moscow, TN offers a Christian Horse Camp to children ages 6 and up. Summer Camp meets from the end of May – through August, Monday – Thursday,  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday until 12 noon; ($200/week). Children bring their own lunch. They also offer overnight camp during the week Tuesday –Thursday, picking up on Friday; space limited. Overnight Weekend Camp, Friday 6pm. until Sunday 12:00 (reservations only). Activities include Bible study, prayer, bonfires, canoeing, swimming, fishing, trail riding and fundamentals on horsemanship; for all types of riders from beginners to advanced. Holly Springs Horse Camp at YesterYear Lodge is a week-long overnight camp for girls. In 2013 there will be two camps; one begins June 24, the next begins July 1. The camp is held at the lodge near Holly Springs, MS.  Campers can stay in authentic 1800s log cabins or an Indian tipi and explore scenic Holly Springs National Forest trails on horseback.  Yester Year Lodge is a re-creation of a frontier town typical of the early 1800s settlements of Mississippi. Horsemania Camp located at Coyote Run Arena in Mason, TN offers an overnight camp for girls and day camp for boys and girls.  This is the camp to introduce your child to Western Horsemanship. Lessons are taught by an HSA certified instructor with emphasis on horse safety, grooming, and saddling.  Horsemania camp introduces beginners to horseback riding and builds confidence in the saddle. Hunter’s Edge Stables at 5366 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, TN offers a variety of camps and clinics, open to children ages 6 and up who love horses.  Summer camp Session 1: May 27-31, Session 2: June 3-7, Session 3: June 17-21, Session 4: July 8-12, Session 5: July 15-19. JacksonEquestrian Center, 1875 Hwy 70 E, Jackson, TN offers camps that teach both English and Western disciplines, trail rides, and more. Total Horsemanship Camp is June 10-14, 8:00 am-3:00 pm. Beginners learn the fundamentals of horsemanship and a secure seat. Intermediate Riders will tune up their equitation and start to specialize within their riding discipline. Advanced Riders will polish their riding techniques and learn the value of flexion and collection. Advanced Horsemanship Camp is June 17-21.The fee for camp is $250/week. Maple Grove Farm, at 4961 Windsong Park Drive in Collierville, TN, offers week-long Farm Camps for children ages 4-9 throughout June and July. Daily activities are an enriching experience in the outdoors, and include pony rides and petting farm, zip line, swimming pool and more.  Camp instructors encourage each child's curiosity, creativity, and capacity for personal growth in a non-denominational Christian atmosphere. Marigny Park Stables at 5875 Center Hill Rd. in Olive Branch, MS has summer camp for children ages 6-16. Camp I is June 10-14, $350. Camp II is July 10-12; $210. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, and features instruction in English hunter/jumper style riding, horse care, games, and crafts in a positive learning environment. Midland Farms, between Murfreesboro and Shelbyville, TN, will be hosting a summer horse program from June to August. Instructor is Faye Lynn Coffey, who has been teaching and coaching equestrians for 25 years. Kids aged 8 and up can learn about horsemanship, horse management, riding, shoeing, veterinary care, and more. Camps are 10 am to 3 pm for one or two full days of camp; or from 12 pm to 3 pm for one half day of camp.  Need-A-Hand Horse Training, Murfreesboro, TN. Courtney Smith, a graduate of the MTSU Horse Science Program and a professional trainer, will host two summer camps. From June 10 to 14, children aged 7 and up can attend Rodeo Camp and learn roping, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and more. From July 22 to 26, children aged 7 and up can learn about “Everything Horses,” including various riding disciplines, jumping, barrel racing, trail riding, and reining. Daily sessions focus on riding safety, daily care, and crafts. Both camps conclude in “show” competitions for campers. Full day camps last from 9 am to 4 pm. Oak Hill Stables, at 670 County Road 101 in Oxford, MS offers Camp Oak Hill June 23-August 4, 2013. The Horseback Riding Camp is for girls 7-19 years of age, experienced to beginner riders. Choices are overnight camping in the bunkhouse and day-only camp. Camp activities include riding, swimming, arts & crafts, field trips, and horseshoes. Old West Special Trails, at 12200 Macon Road (near Collierville-Arlington Road) in Fisherville, TN, offers summer day camps beginning June 3, for ages 6 and up. 2013 camp hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a new camp starting each week. Camp fee is $285/week. Debbie Cooley teaches western horseback riding from beginner to advanced riders, with an emphasis on safety. Campers enjoy arena riding and trail riding in mornings. Afternoons include a variety of games and crafts. At the end of each week, campers participate in a Friday morning horse show to demonstrate their new skills. Showcase Equestrian Center, LLC, 755 Dent Rd., Eads, TN offers weekly summer camp from May 27 to August 2, 2013. Camp is from 9 am – 3 pm daily. Campers will ride horses, do crafts, play sports, sing songs, dance, and have water day on Fridays. Space is limited to 20 kids per week. Camp is $300/week, or $75 per day, with discounts if paid by May 15. There are also sibling discounts, and before and/or after care is available for a fee. Campers need no prior horse experience. ShelbyFarms Park Equestrian Camp (ages 8-13) at The Stables at Shelby Farms Park, Memphis, TN seeks to create confident and knowledgeable equestrians through a safe, hands-on environment.  Each camp is offered in four one-week sessions, from 8 am-2 pm daily. Session I: May 27 – May 31; Session II: July 3 – June 7; Session III: June 10 – June 14; Session IV: June 17 – June 21. Open enrollment ends May 24th. South Wind Stables, at 10181 State Line Road, Olive Branch, MS, runs 6 weeks of Summer Camps for children ages 5 and up, beginning June 10  with July 4th week off. Camp hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Camps are filled with hunter jumper training, trail rides, stable games, and equestrian crafts. Campers learn grooming, bathing, tacking up horses, and plenty of horsemanship skills. Campers adopt a horse each week to ride every day. Beginners through intermediate riders. Trinity Farm, 10365 Monroe Road, in Lakeland, TN. 2013 Summer camp dates are: June 3-7, June 24-28, July 8-12, and July 22-26.  Hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily. Camp is $375 per week, and is designed for ages five and up. Additional fees apply for anyone who requires one-on-one assistance. Child care is available before and after camp for a flat, per-hour fee. Referral discounts and sibling discounts are offered. Camp activities include riding lessons, basic horsemanship, arts and crafts, and water activities. Victory Ranch Summer Camp, at 4330 Mecklinberg, Bolivar, TN is a non-denominational Christian summer camp and retreat center. Victory Ranch hosts about 800 campers each summer and features top outdoor adventure areas and great accommodations. It is located on 550 acres of rolling hills and woodlands in Hardeman County. Camp includes horseback riding among a host of other activities. Some camps are for boys only, some are for girls only, some are coed. Winterview Farm is a Hunter Jumper Facility at 140 Spring Road in Flora, MS. Summer Horsemanship Camps, Beginner and Advanced sessions, are weekly from Memorial Day through July 12. For advanced camp, riders must be involved in the farm’s lesson program or be pre-approved. Summer camps offer a full spectrum of horsemanship activities from barn chores to participating in a horse show, trail rides, scavenger hunt, costume theme days, games, and more.
