Germantown Charity Horse Show Highlights Saturday night’s performance was Championship night at the Germantown Charity Horse Show, culminating the week’s combination fun and seriously competitive classes. Christian Heineking on River of Dreams was the big winner of the $25,000 Grand Prix of Germantown. Going into the jump-off, it looked like Vicky Miller might take the ribbon on her horse Cincinnati, but Christian cut a few more corners, besting her in time. River of Dreams is owned by Kai Handt of Wylie, TX. Vicky Miller took first and second places in the Welcome Stake Open Jumper Class on Wednesday night: first on Picobello and second on Tamino. While the regular hunter-jumper classes went on throughout the daytime, a variety of crowd-pleasing classes were scheduled for evening performances. Tuesday night’s performance began with several carriage classes, in which Mid-South Horse Review’s own Lauren Pigford was driving. In the Single Pony Carriage Pleasure Driving Class, Veterinarian Dr. Ruth Wilburn took first and second with her two entries, Rollingwoods Cookie Thief and Rollingwoods Classic Rock. Lauren placed third with Nut N’Honey. Following the intense excitement of the Grand Prix of Germantown, Saturday night’s Stick Horse Finals were full of delight and laughter as the participants galloped - or trotted, or walked, or were led by parents - around the arena on a variety of stick horses. This event is definitely not for the old-at-heart. The LeadLine Class winners were Shenandoah Admiral, Katherine Walters the rider, led by Michelle Walters, and Reserve to Kaylee Payne on Skyball’s Paint, with owner Jerry Payne. The Costume Event is always a fun, family class and this year’s entries brought out all the barn members, horses and people alike. Beanie Cone’s Hunters Edge Stables group of “Recession Riders” won the “Most Authentic” award. Rose Marie Lawson’s Oak View Stables group of “Swine Flew” patients won “Most Original.” The “Most Humorous Award went to the “Queen of England and Her Pages,” as the trio of Corgis stole the show. “Most Beautiful” award went to “Showboat Comes to the Show,” as Toof Brown serenaded the audience with his banjo. Friday night’s Hunter Pony Classic was a most formal event, with riders on Small, Medium, and Large Pony mounts dressed to the nines in their tails and stock ties.
