Walking Horse Trainer Locates In Somerville Headed To "Celebration" In Shelbyville Zack Parsons opened a training facility in Somerville, Tennessee earlier this summer. His barn is located on Hwy 64 adjacent to Dandridge Equipment. For the past three years Parsons has worked for trainer Ray Gilmer. Prior to that he trained horses in his home town of Middleton, Tenn. The 29 year-old trainer says he has been riding horses pratically his entire life. Quarter horses were his main interest until he finished high school. Tennessee Walking horses and Saddlebreds became his focus when he begin training to earn money. Parsons says he enjoys being in the business for himself, “ You get a lot more credit this way,” he said. His speciality is starting young colts to show and most weekends he is on the road showing horses and helping his customers exhibit their horses. He works with flat shod and padded horses. He will be carrying three horses to the Celebration in Shelbyville this month.
