“Showdown at the Showplace” was the title of the Mid South Memorial Day Scholarship Cutting Horse Show on Memorial Day weekend, May 26-May 30, 2022 at the Agricenter Show Place Arena, Cordova, Tenn. It was a full show each day with Youth scholarships awarded each day. A total of $25,000 was split over the three days of competition and was paid based on the NCHA payout schedule. Junior and Senior Youth were combined for scholarship money payout, and Junior and Senior Youth points were combined per NYCHA schedule.

LAE (limited age events) classes started on Thursday with two go rounds and a final round; payouts in both go rounds as well as finals. The 5/6-year-old Open, Non Pro and Amateur classes went first, run on the same set of cattle with $2450 added money. These were followed by 4-year-old Open, Non Pro, and Amateur classes, again, run on the same set of cattle with $2450 added money. Friday’s classes were the second go for these horses.

Saturday’s classes utilized both the indoor arena and the outdoor arena, starting with Open, Non Pro, and Amateur in the indoor. Highlights of the indoor action were the $25,000 Novice and Novice Non Pro, the $50,000 Amateur, the $5,000 Novice Non Pro, followed the Youth and finals for the three categories of the 5/6-year-olds.

One purpose of this show is to award college scholarships to top Youth cutting horse riders. Saturday’s Youth Scholarship winners were: Millie Joe Rosenberg of Corinth, MS ($2499), riding Cutting Commander. Cody Gann of Leighton, AL ($1999), riding Hevvy Metal. Georgia Hoffman of Anthony FL ($1499), riding Smart Bobby Rey. Annie Kate White of Philadelphia, MS ($999), riding Cat Man Blue. Cooper Yarbro of Oxly, MO ($666), riding Jrs Cat Wiskey; and Lily Erwin of Evans, GA ($666), riding Moonstruck Player.

Sunday’s Youth Scholarship winners were: Cody Gann, Annie Kate White, Lily Erwin, Lyndi Polk, Maggie Wilson, Cody Cain, and Taylor Allen. Monday’s Youth Scholarship winners were: Millie Joe Rosenberg, Cody Gann, Georgia Hoffman, Cody Cain, Taylor Allen, and Lulu Davis.

Sunday’s classes followed the same order, except finishing with the 4-year-old horses’ finals. Sunday’s Youth results: 1. Sunday Drive, ridden by Lyndi Elaine Polk of Edwards, MS. 2. Hevvy Metal, ridden by Cody Gann. 3. Moonstruck Player, ridden by Lily Erwin. 4. Can Man Blue, ridden by Annie Kate White. 5. Sr Kit Kat Rey, ridden by Maggie Malee Wilson of Cordova, AL. 6. & 7. tie: CD Cats Olena, ridden by Cody Cain of Chancellor, AL and Fantastic One, ridden by Taylor Ruth Allen of Philadelphia, MS.
Monday, Memorial Day was the finale of the show with top horses in all divisions competing: Open, Non Pro/Amateur, $25,000 Novice, $15,000 Amateur, $25,000 Novice Non Pro, $5,000 Novice, $50,000 Amateur, $35,000 Non Pro, and $5,000 Novice Non Pro. Bradey
Davis of Texarkana, TX on Kiss My Spot was the Open Champion for the weekend.
Ricky Lewis of Batesville, MS on Birdy was the Non Pro/Unlimited Amateur Champion.
