A new equestrian facility near Collierville, TN is legging up for its first spring season of riding. Meadowthorpe Farm, located on 5366 Forest Hill Irene Road, Memphis, TN, was previously the home of Hunter’s Edge Stables. Opening last summer under new management, the farm has undergone a transformation and has a new vision.
Farm manager, Ashlee Pigford and owner, Ken Rank’s (owner of Clear Image Pools) goal for Meadowthorpe is to provide quality and reliable horse care as a boarding facility, and to encourage more adults and kids in our area to experience horses, and to provide a place to do so affordably.
A top priority at Meadowthorpe Farm is to provide quality horse care. “We provide top-notch, affordable, full stall-board care for your horse in a friendly, fun, and safe environment. As a low-key and quiet, small facility vs. a traditional “show barn,” we want both happy horses and happy people at our farm. Safe, responsible, horsemanship practices, along with good sportsmanship are at the heart of this facility. We share our love of horses in an environment that adheres to good family values, respect for horses, each other, and our farm. We appreciate and welcome the value of different equestrian disciplines and do not have a “one-size-fits-all” outlook on horsemanship.”
Hunter/Jumper lessons are currently available at this facility with trainer Leslie Gattusso or with Ashlee Pigford (who also offers beginner dressage and western lessons).
Ashlee is a life-long, second generation horsewoman, who grew up locally riding and competing her rescued OTTB Hunter, Sampson. She rode on an IHSA team in college and has taught numerous students part-time at Kimberlin Farm in Olive Branch, MS for the past 10+ years.
Coach Leslie Gattuso grew up riding in the Memphis area at such barns as Hugh Frank Smith’s Farm and Jerome Robertson’s Stables, where she competed both locally and out of town. She has ridden with Margie Clark, Phoebe Sheets, Suzy Young, and Melanie Smith, and she’s ridden in George Morris and Tad Coffin clinics.
In addition to boarding and lessons available at Meadowthorpe Farm, Pigford is recruiting riders to practice with and complete on a youth junior and high school equestrian team. “No need to own a horse to participate,” says Ashlee.
