The 33rd annual $50,000 Music Country Grand Prix was back this year as the featured class at Brownland Farm’s Autumn Country Horse Show, October 20-24, 2021.
“The Music Country Grand Prix provides crucial funding to Saddle Up!, which gives children with disabilities the opportunity to grow and succeed through equine-based programs,” said Lise Bohannon, co-chair with Trina Hayes of the Music Country Grand Prix. “We were eager to put on this event again and celebrate with the people who play a major part in making Saddle Up! and the Music Country Grand Prix truly special.” This year over 400 spectators were wined and dined for the special fundraiser. Since 1990, the Music Country Grand Prix has raised over $2 million in support of Saddle Up! This year’s Grand Prix raised over $110,000 for Saddle Up! Tractor Supply Company, a sponsor for over 14 years, was the “Grand Champion” sponsor again this year.
David Jennings continued his winning streak in Brownland’s Grand Prix classes, taking the top purse in the Country Music Grand Prix aboard Follow Me. Grant Field and Baffin made the trek from Canada to compete, and their trip was definitely a success with a second place finish. Genevieve Munson and Contendro Star put in an outstanding performance to place third.
Genevieve Munson and Contendro Star won the $7,500 Welcome Stake earlier in the week, besting David Jennings on his two horses, Follow Me (4th) and Cendatus PS (5th). Gianna Aycock was second with her Flex A Tia and Haley Gassel was third on Iliano Van D’Abelendreef.
In the $7500 Hunter Derby, Kelly Mullen took the top three placements, as well as six out of the top ten. Riding Joy-Elizabeth Elliott’s, Golden, she had the winning round over a very competitive field of 32 entries. She and Cloud 9 (ETA Equestrian, LLC) came in second, and she piloted Vizcaya (Ashley Hixon) to third. Kelly was back to take eighth on Cheryl Rubenstein’s Capisce, ninth on Holly Labry’s Riverside, and tenth on Joni Werthan’s Menelik. Anna Schierholz squeezed in seventh place on Charismatic.
Matt Piccolo and his Concent were fourth in the Derby. Kyle Muckler rode Maffitt Lake Farms’ L Colantos to a fifth place finish, and Roger Turner and Aviator (Denise Short) rounded out the top six.
In THIS Children’s Medal, Eleanor Grace Flynn and Candor won the medal, with Riley Zinn and Vassini placing second.
Marcy Tremblay riding Silent Partner earned the top score for a non-professional in the $7500 Hunter Derby. Marcy rides with Elizabeth Lampert at Arbor Hill Farm, Inc.
