NEW ROYALTY CROWNED AT THE BUCKIN’ ON THE RIVER PRCA RODEO
Tennessee’s first ladies of rodeo were crowned on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the final performance of the Buckin’ On The River PRCA Rodeo in Savannah, TN.
Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2021 Sydney Caen of Eads, TN, crowned Valerie Preston of Tullahoma, TN, Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2022. Caen will represent Tennessee at the next Miss Rodeo America Pageant in Las Vegas this December, and Preston will begin her reign on Jan. 1, 2022.
Outgoing Teen Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2019-2021 Ryleigh Dunn of Taft, TN, passed the silver crown to Dawson Harvey, Teen Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2021-22, who resides in Spring Hill, TN.
Also, Jr. Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2019-21 Layla Holland of Millington, TN, relinquished her crown to Rachel McClanahan, Jr. Miss Rodeo Tennessee 2021-22, a resident of Union City, TN.
Valerie Preston, 25, is a distillery microbiologist for Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, TN. She is the daughter of Bobby and Tonya Preston of Lynchburg, TN. Preston holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness and a Master of Science degree in Fermentation Sciences from Middle Tennessee State University.
Preston’s early equestrian experience consisted of showing Spotted Saddle Horses and Tennessee Walking Horses, but during her senior year of high school she made the switch to the American Quarter Horse, learning to run barrels and team roping as a header. When she is not looking through a microscope or riding, Preston enjoys reading and working on leather projects such as tooling and painting earrings, wallets and belts.
Teen titleholder Harvey, 15, is entering her sophomore year at Summit High School in Spring Hill, TN. She is the daughter of Seth and Amy Harvey. She is an active member of the Williamson County 4H and enjoys halter breaking her grandparents show cattle.
She has competed in Tennessee High School Rodeo and is an active member of the Tri-Star Little Britches Rodeo Association. Her rodeo events are barrel racing and pole bending. When she is not riding or working with the cows, Harvey enjoys singing and writing songs. Her future goal is to specialize in horse training and equine reproduction.
Jr. Queen McClanahan, 12, is a seventh-grader at Union City Middle School in Union City, TN. She is the daughter of Justin and Mindy McClanahan.
McClanahan competes in the Tennessee Youth Rodeo Association and plans to compete in Tennessee High School Rodeo in the future. Her rodeo events are barrel racing, pole bending and goat tying. When she is not riding, McClanahan enjoys playing soccer, reading and spending time with her friends and family. Her future goal is to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin and compete on the rodeo team.
All three young ladies will spend a year promoting the sport of rodeo by making rodeo appearances, riding in parades, visiting schools and civic organizations, interacting with the media and participating in rodeo related activities. In the pageant, they were scored in the categories of horsemanship, personality and appearance and rodeo knowledge by a panel of three judges.
The Miss Rodeo Tennessee Pageant is held annually in conjunction with the Buckin’ on the River Rodeo in Savannah, TN, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
