For the third time in three months, the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association (VolRHA) was back at the Show Place Arena in Memphis, Tennessee for a show May 22-23, 2021. The Salute the Troops show had a Memorial Day theme, paying homage to those in the U.S. armed forces. Classes were held simultaneously in the covered outdoor arena and the indoor arena. Trail classes were held in the uncovered outdoor arena.
The show attracted over 75 horse/rider contestants in a wide variety of classes, including showmanship, conformation, herd work, cutting, ranch riding, trail, AQHA Ranch Horse classes and NRCHA classes.
The show got underway Friday evening with a Meet & Greet and buffet snack dinner. Breakfast coffee on Saturday morning was from Black Rifle Coffee Company – MO Murdered Out – a veteran-owned coffee company in Manchester, Tenn. Then classes got rolling at 8 a.m. with herd work in the outdoor covered arena. At 10 a.m., working cow horse and open hackamore began the classes in the indoor arena. Tammy Bledsoe summarized Saturday’s activities: “We had 3 hours of herd work, 7 hours of trail and ranch riding, and 9 hours of cow horse work today.”
There was no Cowboy Church on Sunday morning, so classes started early at 8 a.m. with VRH reining, cow work, showmanship and conformation. Leadline was held after VRH conformation. After a break, Ranch Reining and NRCHA classes completed Sunday’s showbill.
