The last weekend in February (25-28), 2021 brought a barrel racing fundraising effort for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to the Show Place Arena in Cordova, Tenn. The eighth annual St. Jude Barrel Jam offered $10,000 total added money with the theme “ride for more than braggin’ rights.” Ride for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Sarah Sheehan explained the importance of the fundraiser.

“The annual Barrel Jam at the Agricenter Showplace Arena is an event benefiting the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

“Fundraisers can raise $1000 and earn a custom buckle, or raise $5000 to earn a JHA saddle or a $1000 credit toward a Martin saddle from JHA Tack.  This year two of our $5,000 fundraisers drew names from the list of contestants in the Future Legends class to offer them their choice of a new JHA saddle, or $1,000 gift card.

“Each year the event hosts two auctions, one offering donated stallion breedings, and an onsite silent auction – each with100% of the proceeds benefiting St. Jude. Since 2015, the Barrel Jam for St. Jude has raised over 2 million dollars for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Thanks to our volunteer gate crew and barrel setters from Rusty Nails Cowboy Church and Three Trees Cowboy Church for donating their time.

“Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from 20% when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80% today. Despite all that progress, one in five children in the U.S. who are diagnosed with cancer will not survive.  We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.”

According to the St. Jude fundraising page, the weekend’s event surpassed the goal of $100,000.
