Benton County (Miss.) Open All-Age and Derby

Michigan City, Miss. — The Benton County Open All-Age and Derby were contested at Whippoorwill Farm near Michigan City, Miss. starting December 5. Winner of the Open All-Age, with 22 entries, was Whippoorwill Justified, seven-year-old white and liver pointer male owned by Ronnie Spears of Jacksonville, Ark., and handled by Larry Huffman. Coldwater Spectre, white, lemon and ticked, pointer male, handled by Weldon Bennett, was second for owner Gary W. McKibben of Hernando, Miss. Third was Nosam’s Sweet Water, white, orange and ticked pointer  male, owned by Jeff Busby of Milsap, Tex., and handled by Huffman.

Winning the Open Derby was Touch’s Walk The Line, white, orange and ticked pointer male handled by Ike Todd for owner Keith Wright of Covington, Ind. Second was Game Rebel, white, liver and ticked pointer male, also handled by Ike Todd for Dr. Fred Corder of Corinth, Miss. Billy Blackwell handled Como Rain to third. The white and liver pointer male is owned by Billy and Rachel Blackwell, Tennessean Doug Arthur and David Russell of Olive Branch, Miss. Sixteen young dogs competed.

Judges were Daniel Bolden of Holly Springs, Miss., and Buster Tucker of Berea, Ky.
