The Mid-South Quarter Horse Association (MSQHA) hosted their annual Turkey Circuit, this year at the Show Place Arena in Cordova, Tenn. on November 27-29, 2020. Exhibitors had the opportunity to earn four sets of AQHA points with four judges: Michelle Tidwell, Clint Fullerton, Jamie Dowdy, and Brad Gibby.

The show got underway Friday evening with Western Riding, Ranch Riding, and Reining classes. Show secretary Pat Kress said there were over 50 entries in Ranch Riding classes Friday night, and that is one of the more popular divisions at the show. That said, the show was small this year, with 64 horses entered as of Saturday afternoon. Pat estimated that there would be about 250 rides per judge over the weekend. Pat attributed the lean attendance to the AQHA World Show having just ended (Nov. 2-21) and the Pinto World show just ending (Nov. 7-22).

Saturday morning’s classes began with Showmanship and halter classes, but Kress said that halter entries were down this year, although Showmanship is one of the popular classes.

After halter classes, the outdoor covered arena and indoor arena were both busy, with trail and horsemanship classes in the covered arena and Western and Ranch Riding happening in the indoor arena. After horsemanship and reining came the walk/trot, western pleasure, and the hunt seat and equitation classes to the indoor arena.

On Sunday came another set of trail classes in the outdoor arena, with horsemanship, western pleasure, and equitation in the indoor arena, finishing the show with hunter classes in the indoor.

This show offered the all inclusive fee of $285 for entries, stall, and fees for one horse. A special offering was the $250 added Turkey Trot. How fast can your horse trot? The class was for Ranch Riding exhibitors and took place on Saturday after the Ranch Riding classes. Circuit awards that were given for each class included a cute screen print T-shirt of a turkey riding horseback.

Dennis and Trena Moffett were, once again, organizers of the show. Trena commented about the show: “The Turkey Trot show was a blast!  There were lots of incredible horses and talented exhibitors earning points and some even finishing their AQHA Championships over the weekend.  Overall, a great show!”

This show concludes the 2020 show season for Mid-South Quarter Horse Association. Find more information about MSQHA at: http://www.midsouthquarterhorse.com. Pat Kress now has her own website where show results are posted: PBKress Horse Shows.
