Patrick Kayser’s Peak Equine Productions brought the Southland Circuit AQHA show to the Show Place Arena in Cordova, Tenn. on October 22-25, 2020. The show had been rescheduled from its original date and location, March 20-22 at the Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, Tenn. because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the show merged with the Mid-South Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity for their 38th annual show on Friday and Saturday, since this is the traditional weekend and venue for the MSQHBF. Riders could earn five sets of points as exhibitors showed to five judges: Jeff Allen, Bobbie Jo Stanton, Buddy Fisher, Liz Baker, and Eric Peterson.
The show offered a $325 Flat Fee, Circuit All-Around Awards, a High Point Youth Award, $500 Level 1 Open Versatility Challenge, and Level 1 Youth and Amateur Versatility Challenge. There were NSBA $250 added classes: Four/Five Year Old Open Trail, Three/Four Year Old Open Western Pleasure, Three/Four Year Old Open Hunter Under Saddle, Green Ranch Riding, and Long Line Futurity.
Penny Robertson, organizer of the MSQHBF, was pleased with the turn out, during these trying times. She said the number of entries was about the same as last year. There were cash payouts in every MSQHBF class along with various prizes. Champions received leather halters and reserve champions received hat cans. Six MSQHBF classes were offered on Friday and Saturday after lunch break. They included: Walk-Trot, Non-Pro Maturity, Youth Pleasure, Novice-Amateur Pleasure, and Maturity 4 and Older. Stallions represented were: Pros Vindicator, Chip Rodder, A Dream Remembered, Cool Hearted Rebel, RL Best of Sudden, and Just a Ladies Man.
AQHA Show Secretary Pat Kress said, “We are just glad to be here. Since Congress was cancelled, Patrick worked out a deal with MSQHBF to host a fall show here.” The show attracted 461 total entries.
Mask requirements were enforced by the Shelby County Health Department to prevent the spread of contagious disease and to assure a safe environment for those participating and spectating. The announcer reminded folks in the indoor arena of the mask requirement, “because we all want to be able to show our horses.”
