Hillsboro Hounds held their annual Opening Meet on November 2, 2019 at the McAlister’s Time Out Farm in Lynnville, Tennessee. The special event attracted 64 riders with approximately 280 attending the Hunt Breakfast. Dr Stuart Gordon, Executive Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Nashville presided over the Blessing of the Hounds.
Huntsman Johnnie Gray took out 23½ couple of hounds for the day’s hunt. Gray said, “It was a lovely, sunny, warm day, but with not much scent. Shortly after casting, the hounds found a bobcat, which they pursued for 20 to 30 minutes. Later, they found a coyote, which they ran to the north corner of the hunt country. [After losing scent] they were picked up and cast back towards to meet site.”
Hillsboro Hounds have been hunted in middle Tennessee since 1932. They hunt Saturdays and Wednesdays during the formal season across multiple hunt fixtures. Their hounds are a cross of English and American Foxhounds. Preserving land in the community with area landowners to continue the hunt is important to Hillsboro and the hunt has a commitment to conservation. Their partnership with The Land Trust for Tennessee endeavors to ensure a beautiful, healthy environment for all life here.
On Saturday December 7, 2019, Hillsboro has a Joint Hunt with Cedar Knob and Mells, and on December 26, Hillsboro will hunt the traditional Boxing Day Hunt at Far Corner Farm.
