It’s often said, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.” Nine- year-old Kasen Brewer of Waynesboro, Tennessee is a prime example of that statement’s truth.
Even though the Waynesboro Elementary 4th grader was the youngest and smallest competitor, the heart that he gave at each Ranch Rodeo gained him the respect of his fellow competitors. Enough respect to be voted Top Hand of the Triple R Cattle Company’s Super Seven Series Ranch Rodeo finals at Marshall County Fairgrounds on November 2 - 3, 2019.
Kasen competes on the Super Punchers team with his dad Kyle Brewer, Gordon Fisher, and J. R. Coffman. Kasen and his horse Spot work like a well-oiled machine and give everything they have working cows – at home, at Little Britches Rodeos, and at Ranch Rodeos.
Paul Reel, owner of Triple R Cattle Company and sponsor of the Super Seven Series, stated, “Well, I’m sure glad I didn’t have to pick the Top Hand Award. I think a lot of the guys did an outstanding job this year and it was up in the air for anyone. However, I think it was well deserved by the young man who won the award. This little fella had a great attitude and gave 100% every time he entered the arena. In these events, you have cattle that are ten times bigger than he is, yet he’s right in the middle of it with the grown folks. Just watching his effort, the excitement, and smiles he puts out during the season is what it is all about and makes it all worthwhile.”
Kyle Brewer says he likes Ranch Rodeos for thecamaraderie, but getting to work with Kasen “keeps me doing the Ranch Rodeos.”
Kasen says it feels good and he’s “purty [sic] excited” to be voted Top Hand. Kasen says, “I like competing in Ranch Rodeos best because I get to work with my daddy.” Kasen competes in Little Britches rodeos, as well as the Ranch Rodeos. He said science is his favorite subject at school, but his mom Brandie laughingly quipped “He says that because I’m his teacher.” Kasen has a sister Kylee, who is a freshman at Wayne County High School.
