The “joint was jumpin’” with fast, rough and tumble action at the 26th annual Liberty Bowl Pro Rodeo, December 28, 2013 at the Show Place Arena, Memphis, TN. Professional cowboys from the multi-state region, including many from the mid-south, came to test their mettle against rodeo stock provided by contractor Mark Johnson and the crew of Universal Rodeos. Jamie White and the Agricenter Showplace Arena crew were also available to make sure the show went smoothly.
High School Band members and cheerleaders, scheduled to perform in the Liberty Bowl on New Year’s Eve, came to see the rodeo. The teens represented several high schools from across the country, some from as far away as Chicago, IL.
There was plenty of beauty at the rodeo, too, represented by the Rodeo Royalty: Caitlin Jacobs of Little Rock, AR, Rodeo of the Mid-South Queen 2013; Taylor McNair, Teen Miss Rodeo of the Mid-South 2013; Avery Lee, Junior Miss Rodeo of the Mid-South 2013; and Natalie King, Rodeo of the Mid-South Princess 2013. Miss Autozone Liberty Bowl 2013, Davanna Law, was there signing autographs for plenty of young cowboys.
IPRA Clown of the Year Dusty Myers entertained the near-capacity crowd between rides – bringing laughs to the crowd in spite of (or because of?) his corny humor!
Top Cowboys and Cowgirls at the event were:
Bull Riding: Denton Fugate from Jefferson City, MO
Saddle Bronc: Austin Joseph of Benton, KY
Team Roping: Dalton Turner and Jeri Rhine
Steer Wrestling: Jordan Thrasher of Union City, TN
Tie Down Calf Roping: Cody Skelton of Troy, AL
Bareback Bronc: Josh Crager, from Columbia, TN.
“Fast Times” Barrel Racing: Mylee Speer, from Branch, AR (14.794). Megan Rhinehart from Guy, TN placed second (14.819). Samantha Davis of Rossville, TN was third (14.913).
