Tennessee High School Rodeo Association (TNHSRA) held its last rodeo of the season at UT Martin in Martin, Tenn. on May 4-5, 2019. The TNHSRA Finals are June 6-8 in Cookeville, Tenn.
Mounted by several cowboys in calf roping for more than a decade in Tennessee High School Rodeo, Cole Walker’s American Quarter Horse Cash still gets the job done. As Cole prepares for his next educational step into college, Cash will go with him to compete at this level as a Sky Hawk for the University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo team.
Jesse Keysaer stays in the practice pen with his two horses Skeet and Money, with steer wrestling being his best event. If he can’t run steers, you’ll find him on his steer saver and horse saver. Last year Jesse won the National High School Rodeo Finals title in steer wrestling, and last March he won The Junior American steer wrestling title at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He will be attending Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas in the fall on a rodeo scholarship.
Keilee Garton’s horse Peponitas Chip (Pep) is always her “go to horse” for competing in pole bending. Although he was purchased for a pole horse, he works triple duty as a barrel, pole, and breakaway horse. He was originally trained as a pickup horse and thrives in any event Keilee enters. Keilee is going into her junior year at Dickson County High School with plans to attend college with interests in the medical field while continuing to rodeo.
Dawson Moore is currently a Junior at Lexington High School and rides bareback broncs in the THSRA. He is the defending state champion and is currently leading in the THSRA points for this year. He has been riding bareback broncs for three years and intends to continue his rodeo career in college. He has the heart and drive to ride!

Douglas Dylan led the way in Bareback Riding with a score of 64.0.
Caroline Crawford, of Lambert, TN, was tops in Barrel Racing with a very fast time of 13.927.
In Breakaway Roping, three top cowgirl had fast times: Lainey Hutchison, of Humboldt, TN, with a time of 2.600; Emma Kate Wilder, of Millington, TN, with a time of 2.670; and Bethany Stallons with a time of 2.970.
In Bull Riding, three cowboys had very good scores: Dustin Douglas of Limestone – 69.0; Robert O’Daniel of Quebeck – 67.0; and Carson Beuerlein of McEwen, TN – 62.0.
Cole Walker of Sparta, TN led the way in Calf Roping with a time of 9.810.
In Goat Tying, Lauren Shultz of Orlinda, TN had the best time: 8.520, beating Blaize Deere by more than a second: 9.570.
In Pole Bending, Kyla Matthews of Athens, TN and Blaize Deere of Scotts Hill, TN had the best times: 20.557 and 21.059, respectively.
In Steer Wrestling, Jesse Keysaer of Culleoka, TN brought down his steer in 7.800 seconds.
The best three teams in Team Roping were: Zane White (heeler) of Scotts Hill, TN and Jesse Keysaer (header) of Culleoka, TN with a time of 6.400. Cole Walker (heeler) of Sparta and Kyla Matthews (header) of Athens roped their calf in 8.050 seconds, and Tays Bryson (heeler) of Crossville and Webb Lane (header) of Byrdstown did the job in 8.480 seconds.

Two top cowgirls led the way in Barrel Racing: Caroline Crawford of Lambert (13.954) and Lauren Shultz of Orlinda (13.993).
The top two scores in Breakaway Roping were posted by Riley Edwards of Jasper (2.710) and Kyla Matthews of Athens (2.790).
In Calf Roping, Cole Walker of Sparta had the top score: 12.280. Blayne Saine of Detroit (13.820) and Lane Webb of Byrdstown (13.910) were a close second and third.
In Goat Tying, Emma Kate Wilder of Millington, TN had the fastest time (8.960), followed closely by Abby Shultz of Orlinda (8.940).
Emma Kate Wilder was also the winner of Pole Bending, with a fast time of 20.585, but Blaize Deere of Scotts Hill was a close second with 20.814 seconds on the clock.
In Team Roping, Owen Gibson (header) of Gadsden and Tyler Brooks (heeler) of South Fulton had the fastest time: 7.310. Jesse Keysaer (header) of Culleoka and Zane White (heeler) of Scotts Hill performed well, too, roping their calf in 8.620 seconds.
