West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association was back at the “Charity Arena” in Germantown, Tenn. for their Memphis in May series, May 2-5 and May 9-12, 2019. The weather was somewhat better than at the April shows, but, once again, rain showed up for Saturday. Friday’s weather was only a slight gentle drizzle, and Sunday of both shows was a gorgeous sunny day!
Show manager Barney Mallace said, “The Pony Classic with lots of entries was fantastic and the WTHJA Derby was fun, too. The May shows were about twice as big as April shows.” Mallace brought some of his hand-made pottery for sale and, all in all, sold about 30 pieces at the spring shows.
Folks from the Germantown Charity Horse Show committee treated show participants to wine and cheese hospitality on Friday afternoon of the Memphis in May I show.
At Memphis in May I, the Green/Regular Pony Classic attracted 15 entries, with Jane Head and her Dreamsicle taking top honors. The pair also won the Marshall & Sterling U.S. Pony Medal, WIHS Pony, and were Large Pony Reserve champions.
Kali Wright Ryan and Jack InThe Box were Medium Pony Hunter Champions, Kali was Champion in Equitation 11 & Under, and the pair were Reserve champions in the Green/Regular Pony Classic and the Marshall & Sterling U.S. Pony Medal.
In the WIHS/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic, Lara Eason won the blue on Great As Iz. Addie Bihm and Forever were winners of the WIHS/NAL Adult/Amateur Classic.
In the Junior/AO Hunter Classic, Kristen Schnelle and Calena took top honors, with Giselle Grench and Colorado 222 in reserve. Calena and Kristen were also Champion in the Amateur Owner Hunter 3’3” 18-35 division.
Giselle and Colorado 222 won the WTHJA Hunter Derby, the Green Hunter Classic, and the Dover Saddlery/U.S. Medal, as well as were Champions in Jr./AO Hunter 3’6” division.
Shanna Beyer and Invictus were Champions in the 1.20/1.30m Jr./AO & Amateur Jumper division, with Chara Short and USA D’Horset in Reserve.
At Memphis in May II, Mary Mielenz dominated the WTHJA Hunter Derby, taking first with Lacoste and second with Neuwirth SCF. Giselle Grench and Colorado 222 placed third.
There was great interest in the Green & Regular Pony Hunter Classic with 16 entries vying for the title. Rachel Sutton and En Vogue won top placement, with Hey Scooby and Hagen Blackwell in reserve. Kali Wright Ryan and Jack InThe Box placed third.
Ella Trotz with As Even won the Jr/AO Hunter Classic, with Tate Allen and Golden in reserve.
Jamie Sokoloff and Cassini Royale were first in the WIHS/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic.
In the WIHS/NAL Adult Amateur Classic, Mary Grayson Fauser and Captivate were Champions, with Addie Bihm and Forever in reserve. Kakki Wright and Comaraderie were third.
Naomi Gillen and Hearts Forever won the Green Hunter Classic, with Mary Mielenz and Neuwirth SCF in reserve. Katana Kennedy O’Brien held third and fourth places on Chosen and Chablis 162, respectively.
Brittany Kasparack dominated the Child/Adult Amateur Jumper division with a first in every class on Leonardo Van De Neerheide.
Large animal veterinarians did well at the show. Chara Short, DVM and her USA D’Horset were champions in the 1/20/1.30M Jr/Amateur Owner Jumper division. Kakki Wright, DVM and Comaraderie were Champions in the Adult Amateur Hunter 36+ division.
