West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association began its spring show season by offering its first schooling show on March 30, 2019 at the Germantown Charity Horse Show Arena in Germantown, TN. Show manager Barnie Mallace said, “Things went very well - great footing, great attendance, good weather, until the last 20 minutes when we had a good shower, but still had happy people. We had lots of new members and new horses registered.”
The schooling show nicely set the stage for the tandem Springtime in Dixie and Springtime Encore shows the first and second weekend of April. WTHJA offers five nationally rated shows per year, beginning with Springtime in Dixie, April 4-7 and the Springtime Encore, April 11-14.
Springtime in Dixie had sunny, warm spring weather on Friday and Saturday, but rain bookended the show on Thursday and Sunday, with thunderstorms on Sunday. Friday featured the Green Classic and Saturday featured the Adult Classic, Children’s Classic, Pony Classic, Amateur/Owner Classic, and Junior Classic. The USHJA Pony Derby and WTHJA Derby were scheduled on Sunday morning, but classes had to be cancelled because of thundershowers that lasted all day. It’s not safe to show in thunder and lightning!
