Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club (WCSC) held its third annual Royalty Show to select the Queen and Princess for the new show year. This year’s contest included a Buckaroo Princess. This year’s show was held on April 23, 2017, with ten girls competing for the coveted titles. The judges were 2017 Miss Rodeo Tennessee Simone Taylor, former Miss Tennessee High School Rodeo Queen and former Miss Rodeo Tennessee Sue Lynn Perry, and former Miss Rodeo of the Mid-South and former SASCA Queen Lori Simpson Pope.
Even though no rain was predicted for show time, just 30 minutes before the competition was scheduled to start, a heavy rain came down. Undaunted, the contestants “cowgirl-ed up,” put on their boots and competed in all categories in the downpour.
The Queens and Princesses were judged riding a horsemanship pattern, followed by a horsemanship interview and a one-on-one interview with the judges. They were scored on personality and appearance in both categories. They finished the competition with a test on WCSC Rule book, and parts of the saddle and horse. The Buckaroo Princess contestants were judged on horsemanship, personality and appearance, and a brief interview.
The new 2017 WCSC royalty are: Madi Trouy, 2017 Buckaroo Princess; Kelsey Stimpson, 2017 Princess, and Jena Davis, 2017 Queen.
2017 Queen Jena Davis
Jena Rene Davis is the daughter of June Davis and granddaughter of Diane Hartley of Millington, TN. Jena is a 14 year old 9th grader at Millington Central High School. Her main interests include drawing, reading, and horses. Her future plans include attending Union University and majoring in nursing. Jena rides at Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club, Dacus Riding Club, and Coyote Run Arena. She will be proudly carrying the American flag this year and competing for the all-around title on her horse Cornbread, aka Bubba.
2017 Princess Kelsey Stimpson
Kelsey Rae Stimpson is the daughter of James “Bart” Stimpson and Rae Ann Stimpson of Millington, TN. She is 12 yrs. old and a 6th grader at Munford Middle School where she is a National Junior Honor Society Member and on the A & B Honor Roll. Kelsey’s love for horses started in 2015 when she won a colt “Loverboy” in a raffle at Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club. Since then her passion has grown for her beloved equines, Showdown, Skip, and Loverboy, who she shows in western pleasure, horsemanship, barrels and poles. Kelsey is an active Youth Member of the Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club and the Woodstock Ghost Rider’s 4-H Horse Program.
2017 Buckaroo Princess Madi Trouy
Madilyn Elizabeth Trouy is the daughter of Tootie and Matt Trouy of Millington, TN. She is 6 years old and will enter the second grade this fall at E.E. Jeter Elementary. Madi likes reading, dancing and riding her pony Cookie. She began showing at one year old in Lead-In. This year, she will participate in all of the pony classes, as well as Buckaroo. Madi is a fourth generation Woodstock member.
