After two schooling, “no frills,” shows in early April, Brownland Farm began their USEF AA rated show season with the Brownland Farm Spring I, April 16-20, 2019, followed by the Spring II, April 24-28, 2019. The shows featured Hunter Derbies, a Grand Prix, Welcome Stakes, and Classics. Lili Weik Photography was the official photographer for the shows. “We had our ‘spring rain’ during most of Spring I, but almost every exhibitor muscled through the cool temperatures and soggy weather. Fortunately, we are seeing temperatures in the 70s and 80s for Spring II and the outlook on rain is much more favorable,” said Michelle Anderton, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Brownland Farm.
The highlight of the Brownland Farm Spring I show was the $25,000 Brownland Grand Prix, moved from Friday to Saturday, April 20, 2019. Christoph Schroeder and Duran Duran took home the top prize of $7,500 and the blue ribbon. Danielle Grice and Kaprio were second, with Schroeder also taking third place on Diamant De Revel. Faith Davis rounded out fourth and fifth on Da Vinci and Cardiff CR, respectively.
“Along with the Tri-color, the winning duo got their names on the David Q. Wright Perpetual Trophy, awarded during the Spring I Horse Show each year to the winner of the first Grand Prix of the season,” added Anderton. “Christoph and Duran Duran we also presented with the W-pad Animo Memory Foam saddle pad by Selleria.”
Thursday morning’s $5,000 Brownland Farm Hunter Derby, first Hunter Derby of the season, attracted 22 entries, but only one took the blue ribbon and top prize of $1,500: Katana Kennedy O’Brien riding Colorado 222. Donald Sheehan and Quoted were second, winning $1,000 for their efforts. Kelly Mullen was third on DSH Anka, and Mary Mielenz was fourth with Neuwirth SCF.
“Smart Pak awarded the winning duo a hunter bridle from their line of show bridles. Wilkers presented them with a custom saddle pad embroidered with the Brownland Farm logo and ‘2019 Hunter Derby’. Each winner also received a gorgeous spring blue plaid cooler, custom made by Integrity Linens,” said Anderton.
Schroeder also took first place on Faith Davis’ Da Vinci in the $3,000 1.30m Jumper Stake. Michael Tokaruk won the $5,000 1.40m Welcome Stake with Eagle Eyes P.S., owned by Richie Moloney.
The Jr./AO Hunter Classic 3’3” attracted 16 entries, with Elizabeth Nestor and Covert taking the blue. The pair were also Champions in Junior Hunter 3’3”.
In the Wash/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic, Grace Roberts and Third Day took top honors.
Evie Jaeckle won the NAL/WIHS Adult Jumper Classic with Nymeria.
Calder Trotz was Children’s Hunter 14 & Under Champion with Fate, and the pair placed second in the Wash/NAL Children’s Hunter Classic.
Ella Trotz was USHJA Hunter 3’ Champion and Junior Hunter Classic 3’6” Champion with As Ever.
Margaret Weaver and Vuitton were A/O 3’3” Hunter Champion.
