The results are in, and even though everyone didn’t place, all the mid-south kids who went to the Junior NFR “had a great experience and lots of fun,” said Cliff Goodrich. The Junior NFR ran from December 7- 16, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cliff Goodrich said, “We all had a great trip and I am sure each family made life long memories that they will cherish forever.”
Several mid-south cowboys and cowgirls participated in the 2017 Junior NFR. “It was a great experience for these kids to compete at the top level,” said Goodrich. “We all enjoyed getting to see all the scenery in Vegas.”
Chism Goodrich from Humboldt, Tennessee is the 2017 Roy Cooper Jr Breakaway Reserve Champion. His parents are Cliff and Julie Goodrich. “He is one amazing kid!” said Melanie Lyell. In Chism’s division, there were 22 competitors in his age group, with three from east of the Mississippi River and the rest from the west. In the qualification round, Chism was second. Then the top four went to the shootout round: there were three kids from Texas, and Chism – three boys and one girl. Chism was Reserve Champion in the shootout.
Mollie Carter, 12-year-old from Eads, Tennessee, finished in 7th place in the average in the Barrel Racing Junior Division. Her parents are Karena and Buster Carter.
Hudson Bolton, 11-year-old from Milan, Tennessee, won 7th in bull riding.
Cy Webb, 8-year-old, from Byrdstown, Tennessee, competed in the Mini Bareback Pee Wee division, but didn’t make the semi finals.
Conner Griffith competed in bareback, but also didn’t make the semi finals.
Lane Webb, 13-year-old from Byrdstown, Tennessee, competed in the tie-down roping, but didn’t make the semi finals.
Jesy Lovelady and Allie Maxwell competed in barrel racing, but, unfortunately, hit some barrels and didn’t place.
Also attending the 2017 Jr. NFR was Allie Maxwell, a 14-year-old 8th grader at Milan Middle School. She qualified in January 2017 in Tunica, Mississippi to go to the Jr. NFR. Her rodeo hero is Ms. Jennifer Barron of Trenton, Tennessee, who has helped her be a better rider – and always stays positive! She loves to ride her 12-year-old Quarter Horse, Hobby By Choice. She also likes playing volleyball, reading and drawing, playing with her dog, and hanging out with her friends. She achieved her short-term goal of making it to the Jr. NFR, and her long term goals are to go to college and become a veterinarian.

In the 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, the following are the World Champions: Bareback, Tim O’Connell; Team Roping (HR) Erich Rogers; Team Roping (HL) Cory Petska; Saddle Bronc Ryder Wright; Tie-Down Marcos Costa; Barrel Racing Nellie Miller; Bull Riding Sage Kimzey. All Around World Champion is Tuf Cooper.
