As an alternative to the hustle and bustle of crowded shopping malls, the Mid South Quarter Horse Association offered the Cold Turkey Barrel Race on Black Friday November 23, 2018, starting at 1 p.m. Organizer Jack Scott posted on facebook, “It’s a short week that ends with [pumpkin] pie and barrel racing. We can do this!” The AQHA and IBRA sanctioned event offered $3000 added money. The AQHA Barrels added $500 and young riders could compete in the Future Legends. The Open Barrel Race offered $1,000 added money and the Youth, Adult, and Masters Side Pots had $500 added. Following Friday’s barrel racing classes was a free chili dinner for all exhibitors.
