Tennessee High School Rodeo State Finals

The Tennessee High School Rodeo State Finals were held in Cookeville, TN this year on June 7-9, 2018. Following are results for the 2017-2018 High School Rodeo season.

The All Around Cowgirl is Kyla Matthews with a whopping 704.5 points, earned in breakaway roping, barrels, poles, team roping, and goat tying. Blaize Deere was second for the title with 626.5 points.

The All Around Cowboy is Cole Walker with 669 points to his name, earned in tie down roping, steer wrestling, and team roping. Jesse Keysaer was second for the title with 641 points, earned in those same categories.

At the State Finals, Haley Heaton led the way in Pole Bending, earning 273 points total. Kyla Matthews was second in Pole Bending with 193 points, and Blaize Deere in third with 155 points. The scores were close for all three. Hayley had times of 20.778,  20.557 and 20.375 in the first, second and third go. Kyla had 20.514 and 20.439 in the first and second go. Blaize’s scores were 21.005 and 20.865 in the second and third go, respectively.

Sadle Wolaver had the top scores in Barrel Racing with 14.968, 14.460, and 14.819 in the first, second and third go, respectively. She totaled 284 points for the win. Kessie Carpenter totaled 203 points for second place with times of 15.629, 15.363, and 14.975.

Dawson Moore was the only cowboy to score in Bareback Bronc riding, earning a 59 in the second go and no score in the first and third go.

There were only two cowboys in Saddle Bronc: Cannon Smith and Jayden Carroll. Carroll amassed 150 points for the number one position, with Smith in second with 127 points. Carroll scored 64.000 and 61.000 in the second and third go, respectively. Smith scored 63.000 in the second go.

In Tie Down Roping, Cole Walker topped the leaderboard with 260 points, with scores of 12.970, 14.080, and 13.400 in the first, second, and third go, respectively. Ethan Tays came in second with 209 points, scoring 11.910 and 12.270 in the second and third go, respectively. That left Jesse Keysaer in third with 199 points, earning scores of 14.520, 22.850, and 12.160.

In Steer Wrestling, Jesse Keysaer was far ahead with 203 points total in spite of only having one good score in the third go of 33.580. Cannon Smith was second with 174 total points, completing a remarkable 8.110 score in the first go. Cole Walker had an even better score in the third go of 5.700, totaling 161 points.

Only one Tennessee cowboy scored in Bull Riding. Bryce Bolton had a first go score of 79. He totaled 160 points for first position.

In Team Roping, it was Cole Walker and Ethan Tays who earned the most team points and the number one State Ranking: 356. Jesse Keyser and Zane White earned a close second in the State Ranking with 352 points.

In Goat Tying, Jaide Ellick earned the top spot, amassing 277 total points. Kailey Schmidt wasn’t far behind in second place with 368.5 total points. Both Jaide and Kailey had some really good scores at the finals. Jade: first go, 9.070; second go, 11.040; third go, 8.650. Kailey: first go, 9.480;  second go, 13.080; third go, 8.440.

Bethany Stallons had the best scores in Girl’s Breakaway Roping, with 229 points total. Beth scored a remarkable 2.390 in the first go, 4.050 in the second go, and 3.680 in the third go. Owen Gibson was a close second with 205 points. Kyla Matthews was third with 197 points, and Emma Kate Wilder fourth with 168.
