The Volunteer State Pinto Organization (VSPO) hosted a combined American Paint Horse Association/Pinto Horse Association show at the Tennessee Livestock Center in Murfreesboro, TN August 12 -13, 2017.  Along with the usual slate of classes for an APHA show – halter, showmanship, hunter, western, and ranch – the Pinto affiliation also offered classes for ponies such as in-hand, trail, jumping, halter, and showmanship.  The Volunteer State Pinto Organization aims for a “fun, relaxed, and enjoyable show environment jam packed with prizes, surprises, and friends.” From all accounts, the Lazy Hazy Summer Showcation worked to fulfill this mission.  The show was the largest for the VSPO with 397 entries on Saturday (118 Pintos), and 408 entries (116 Pintos) on Sunday.  Exhibitors had the opportunity to ride in both Paint and Pinto classes, which run concurrently, or they could choose to show in just the APHA or the Pinto division.  Judges for the show were Sherry Haynes (TX), Jeannie Young (TX), Susan Stafford (TN), and Chris Strine (OH).

High Point awards were given in several divisions and the additional sweepstakes classes were some of the largest of the weekend.  Thanks to the generosity of show sponsors, there was a $500 added money Open Western Pleasure Sweepstakes, a $500 added money Open Hunter Under Saddle Sweepstakes, and a $100 added money Open Walk-Trot Sweepstakes.  Spectators enjoyed some impromptu hula-hooping by the exhibitors in the lineup while waiting on class results.  The weekend also offered an exhibitors’ dinner on Saturday night and a raffle as a fundraiser for the VSPO Youth group.

The National Pinto Horse Association of America, Inc. has its headquarters in Bethany, Oklahoma.  The association has over 40 charters and over 150,000 registered horses and ponies representing at least 55 breeds in addition to grade horses and ponies.  Registration can often be done at the show when a PtHA Field Representative is present to take care of the photos and paperwork, or one can submit requirements on their own with forms found at www.pinto.org.  In addition to the local Volunteer State Pinto Organization shows, the national association hosts a World Championship show in June in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Color Breed Congress in November, also in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The next VSPO show, Color in the Country, an APHA/PtHA recognized, double-judged, show, is planned for September 30, 2017 at Tri State Exhibition Center in Cleveland, TN.  The final show of the 2017 season is scheduled for October 28, 2017, the Candy Corn Classic, another APHA/PtHA, double-judged show, at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center in Lebanon, TN.  For more information about these shows or the Volunteer State Pinto Organization visit their website at www.volunteerstatepintoorg.comor their Facebook page.
