The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled a lot of horse shows this spring. So it was good news to riders that Hunters Edge Stables, on Forest Hill-Irene Road south of Collierville, Tenn., held their first schooling show of the 2020 summer season on Saturday June 6. With over 75 entries and a full day of showing, trainer Beanie Cone called the show a rousing success. Alex Joerg Montgomery raved about the great turnout for the show, even though the weather was hot.
Hunters Edge ran two rings, a smaller beginner ring and the larger advanced ring. Schooling and warm up was in the grass jumping field. Alex judged the beginner ring, while Bowers Cone judged the main ring. Quite a number of area trainers/barns brought riders, including Oak View Stables, Southwind, Meadowthorpe, Oak Crest Farm,Victoria Hickerson, Rochelle Tullos, and others. Divisions ranged the gamut from cross rails to 3-foot jumpers. Alex said that all the divisions filled!
Halls Feed & Seed in Collierville sponsored the Hunter Derby. Each division included the opportunity for competitors to enter the Hunter Derby. At the end of the day, it was Hunters Edge rider Maggie Dixon who won the Halls Feed Hunter Derby on her pony Brighton Whimsical. Maggie will be going to the Pony Finals for the first time in August.
Saddles N Such of Germantown, TN also provided prizes to class and division winners.
Emmalee Lentile was champion of the 2’6 division on Panache.
Meadowthorpe Farm, just down the road on Forest Hill-Irene Road, had several successful riders attend the show. The youngest rider and pony in the Evergreen Hunter division were 12-year-old Claire Champion on Beamer, aka Rollingwoods Bells & Whistles, who just turned four. It was Beamer's very first show!
Hunters Edge hosts its next schooling show on September 19, 2020. In late June, Hunters Edge Stables hosted a clinic with Bowers Cone, June 23-26.
