A new veterinarian joined Equine Veterinary Associates practice at the end of July. She is Dr. Kamille Cormier.
Dr. Kamille Cormier started riding horses at a young age and was a competitive hunter/jumper rider for many years. She completed her doctorate in veterinary medicine close to her hometown at the Atlantic Veterinary College on Prince Edward Island, Canada. While pursuing her veterinary degree, she also finished a course in animal chiropractic at Options for Animals Chiropractic College in Kansas. In the spring of 2017, Dr. Cormier finished a one year medicine and surgery equine internship at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her special interests include surgery, chiropractic, lameness, and all other aspects of managing performance horses. In her spare time she likes to go walking with her dogs, horseback riding (of course), and working out at the gym.
Last August, when nearly three feet of rain in two days caused historic flooding and widespread damage in Louisiana and southwest Mississippi, volunteers from Mississippi State University assisted in relief efforts, and tended to the needs of animal owners in Louisiana. Dr. Cormier, then a veterinary intern, took donations of medical supplies and gift cards to the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She assisted LSU personnel with equine care and volunteered with the animal shelter at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana.
In 2011-2012, Cormier was President of the Pre-Vet Society at the University of Prince Edward Island.
