Queen Sarah is the daughter of Valerie and Andrew Foster of Germantown, Tennessee. She is the granddaughter of Barbara and the late William Flack and Mary Liz and the late Sonny Foster, a founder of the Germantown Charity Horse Show. Sarah was escorted by her father and Benjamin David Wuller.
Sarah attended her first Germantown Charity Horse Show at 8 weeks old and entered her first competition at age 6. Growing up with horses, she began by driving the family’s pony, Molly, and, in a few years she had trained her Haflinger, Major. She won the Junior Championship several times with each pony. She also trained Major as a hunter/jumper. Most recently Sarah has been driving Mrs. Imogene Erb’s pony, Lacy, in competitions and continuing her winning streak.
Sarah graduated from Houston High School where she was a member of the Tennis team, Future Farmers of America, Honors Academy, Junior Classical League and the Environmental Club. In 2017 Sarah had the honor of being a Princess for the Germantown Charity Horse Show representing the Nashoba Carriage Association.
In the summer of 2017 Sarah raised money to travel to Thailand with Global Leadership Adventures. There she worked in the Thai Elephant Village. While there, she and her team were responsible for the complete care of the elephants, in addition to learning about conservation, the local culture and environmental issues, and care for the environment. “We got up before the sun each morning to care for the elephants,” Sarah said. “We worked one-on-one with the elephants’ caretakers. Each elephant has his own caretaker because it takes elephants a long time to develop trust of people.”
In the summer of 2018 she traveled to Ochos Rios, Jamaica, where she volunteered at “The Animal House,” a shelter for dogs, where she cared for the shelter animals. She also taught second grade at the Boscobel Primary School, “which was fun,” Sarah said, and because “they have a shortage of teachers there.”
Sarah is now a freshman at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the Honors College, where she is studying Environmental Policy and Planning. She is on the Academic Dean’s List, is a member of the Honors Council, the Wildlife and Zoology Club, Geology Club, and Clean Up Chattanooga. She also works with Upward Bound Math and Science, helping high school students prepare for college.
Sarah said she has always had an interest in the outdoors and environment. She has fond memories of going to the family’s house in Hardy, Arkansas and kayaking on the Spring River.
Now that interest in the outdoors has evolved into an interest in protecting the environment. “They have a great program [in environmental policy and planning] at Chattanooga,” Sarah said, and she loves the city of Chattanooga. “I’m interested in working on the legal side of environmental protection,” she said, and her course work is covering some essential topics on environmental issues. She’s taking courses in: air and pollution control, biology, environmental science, and sociology, “which will be important in better understanding how people interact with the environment,” she added. Later, she may go to law school or work for a non-profit organization.
Sarah loves horses – of course – and enjoys yoga. She is also an avid hiker, having previously hiked to the top of Mt. Evans in Colorado, and finds plenty of opportunities for exploring in Chattanooga.
Sarah represents young folks who are making a positive impact on the world, and a future in which environmental concern and responsibility will be at the forefront.
