West Tennessee Hunter Jumper Association kicked off its 2017 show season with Spring Time in Dixie, April 6-9, 2017 at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds in Germantown, TN. The weather couldn’t have been better for the spring show, with nightly lows in the 50s and daily highs in the mid-to-upper 70s under sunny skies, and “we had great footing,” said show manager Barney Mallace. This was the first in a series of two national “A” rated shows, followed by the Spring Time Encore, April 12-15. Judges for this show were Thom Brede of Stamping Ground, Kentucky and Chance Arakelian from Rancho Santa Fe, California. Judges for the Spring Time Encore show were Robin Fairclough of Morriston, Florida and Otis Brown from Georgetown, Kentucky.
Special Spring Time in Dixie classes were: the $1,000 Pony Classic and $5,000 1.20m/1.30m Jumper Classics, along with the USHJA 3’3” Medal, WIHS Jumper, WTHJA Pony.
Mary Mac Collins won the Reg./Green Pony Classic on Rumpleminze, and the pair were also Medium Pony Champions.
Winner of the 1.20m/1.30m Jumper Classic was Abigail Sellers, riding Plaisir Du Laurier.
Mary Grayson Fauser and Illuminate were Pony Jumper Champions, and tied for reserve in the 1.0m Jumper division.
Trey Lawson was first in the 1.10m Jumper on Reba and second with Corville Z.
Winner of the WIHS/NAL Children's Hunter Classic was Henry, ridden by Mary Franklin Williams.
Winner of the WIHS/NAL Adult Amateur Classic was Kristen Schnelle on Adele.
Holly Labry, with Riverside, won the Jr./AO Classic - 3'6"/3'3" Combined. Olivia Yukon and Levonworth were second, and the pair won the Pessoa/U.S. Medal.
Carly Alder and HC San Patrignano won the ASPCA/Maclay Medal, with Olivia Yukon and Levonworth placing second.
Yukon and Levonworth were Large Junior 3’3” Champions and took home the WTHJA Horse Medal.
Natalie Sharp and Carnival (#67) won the Marshall & Sterling U.S. Pony Medal.
Julia King and Clovercroft Bunny Hop were Champion the Small/Medium Children’s Pony division, with Clara Hickerson and Farnley Isadorable as Reserve.
Taylor Shea and Charisma were champions in the WTHJA Hunter Derby, while Beanie Cone rode Cheney Thomasson’s Foremost to a close second. Cheney rode her horse Foremost to Championship in the USHJA 2’3” division.
Cheryl Rubenstein and Riesling were Champions in the USHJA Hunters 2’6” division.
Show veterinarian Kakki Wright was also in the irons; she won the Pre-Adult 2’3”-2’6” U/S, a Blue/Red Warm Up class, and the Modified Child/Adult 2’9” O/F class with her horse Comaraderie. Her daughter Kali won a Small/Medium Pony O/F class, 11& Under Equitation on the Flat, and two Blue/Red Warm Up classes on Jack In The Box.
Martha Lannom, riding Yankee Doodle, was Champion in the Pre-Adult 2’3”-2’6” division and in the USHJA Hunters 2’9” division, with Carita Palmer and Davinci in reserve.

WTHJA Spring Time Encore
The WTHJA Spring Time Encore show was held over Easter and Passover weekend, Wednesday – Saturday, April 12-15, 2017. Judges for this show were Robin Fairclough of Morriston, Florida and Otis Brown of Georgetown, Kentucky.
This show featured the $1,000 NAL/WIHS Child/Adult Classic, which attracted 15 entries. When all was said and done, Addie Bihm and Forever were Champions. Madison Hill and Vermeer were second, with Kristen Schnelle coming in third with Adele.
Addie Bihm and Forever were also Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 Champions. Mindy Wurzburg and Overseas captured the Adult Amateur Hunter 36+ Championship.
Madison Hill and Vermeer were Children’s Hunter 14&Under Champions, and won the T.H.I.S. Children’s Medal. The pair also won the Equitation on the Flat 12-14 and were second in Equitation Over Fences 12-14 to winner Emma Prather and Keep The Cash.
Carly Alder won the Children’s Hunter 15-17 Championship on Rachel Eubanks’ Cachas Fumar, earning four firsts out of five classes in this division. Carly was also the top medal winner, taking first on HC San Patrignano in the WTHJA Horse Medal, the ASPCA/Maclay Medal, and the Pessoa/U.S. Medal.
In the Reg. Pony/Green Pony Classic, Emma Rupinski and Pocketful of Sunshine were Champions, with Kitty Walters taking second and third places on Woodlands Velveteen Rabbit and Northwind Liam, respectively. Kitty and Northwind Liam won the Marshall & Sterling U.S. Pony Medal.
Emma and Pocketful of Sunshine were also Small Pony Hunter Champions and first in the WIHS Pony Equitation. The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Equitation and Pony Equitation Finals are highlights of the Washington International show week for junior riders, and a proving ground for future grand prix and Olympic riders. Riders compete throughout the year to earn points to compete in the Finals, which will be held in late October this year at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC.
The Junior Hunter 3’3” division drew 13 entries with Robin Young and Izak tied with Remy Garrison and Dzecko for first place. Two second place winners were Captivate with Allison Rayburn in the irons and Olivia Yukon and Levonworth the other winners.
The horse show veterinarian also made trips to the winner’s circle. Kakki Wright and Comaraderie were Champions in the Pre-adult 2’3”-2’6” division. Her daughter Kali was Champion in Children’s Pony division on Jack in the Box. She also won the 11 & Under Equitation Over Fences, with second going to Isabella Griffin and Carnival; Kali was second in the 11 & Under Equitation on the Flat to winner Carnival and Isabella Griffin.
