There were a variety of driving classes at the Germantown Charity Horse Show, from very formal pleasure driving to the fast paced Scurry Races and Carriage Obstacle Course. It’s like barrel racing – only driven instead of ridden.

In Thursday evening’s (June 9, 2016) Obstacle Course, first to go was Wanda Chancellor, driving Rollingwoods Movin’ On Up. Then Sarah Foster had her turn driving Lace Cap. Michael Tokaruk made his debut as a navigator/groom, behind Maria Roberts driving Rollingwoods Cookie Time. He learned his job well, as he really leaned around the turns to keep the carriage upright. He really was having too much fun!

The last entry of this class really turned on the speed and drove the course Chester Weber-like, to the crowd’s loud cheering and applause! Bob Giles won the class, driving the course in 51.002 seconds with SD Sterling. Sarah Foster was second with Lace Cap, owned by Imogene Erb. Rollingwoods Cookie Time, with Maria Roberts driving, was third. Wanda Chancellor was fourth with Rollingwoods Movin’ On Up. Pam Anderson’s Rebel was fifth, and KT Barnabus driven by Laura Shiflette, was sixth with the slowest time of the class, at 125.79.

In Friday evening’s Scurry Races, Sarah Foster was back with Lace Cap for some fast, precision driving to win the class.
A fan favorite (and, apparently a judge’s favorite) is the Carriage Dog Class. Maria Roberts driving Rollingwoods Cookie Time, with Michael Tokaruk and Alice, who was Top Dog! Taylor Hanes driving the Pink Panther (and last year’s winner) was second. Jackie Rollins with Blaze was third. Wanda Chancellor and her dog Sparkle had matching hats; they placed fourth. Robin Bates driving Coco Chanel was fifth.
