Beautiful, sunny fall weather ushered in the 15th anniversary of the Nashoba Carriage Classic and Arena Driving trial at the Germantown Charity Horse Show in Germantown, TN. Competitors came from around and beyond the mid-south: Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Mississippi. “It was a good show, fun, relaxed, with great sponsors.
Everyone had a great time!” said Brooke Ballenger, President of Nashoba Carriage Association. Judge John Greenall was highly complimentary of the event.
The Arena Driving Trial kicked off the show on Friday afternoon, with two of the drivers’ and spectators’ favorite classes, Carriage Kids and Carriage Dog classes, under the lights on Friday night. The ADT Marathon had fans rooting for their favorites as the teams raced through the obstacles as fast as the arena would allow.
Of course, no Nashoba event is complete without fine dining. Friday night the club hosted the “Thrill on the Hill” pizza party for spectators. Saturday night was the exhibitors’ party, featuring delicious Soul Fish cuisine.
On Sunday came the show’s Pièce de résistance: the Gambler’s Choice class, then a beautiful afternoon’s drive through the Morgan Woods around the Germantown Charity Show Grounds – The Magnolia drive.
This year’s show attracted more junior drivers than ever before. “We had nine juniors participating, which says a lot for the sport. Driving usually attracts older adults. The juniors not only competed, they also did a lot of volunteer work at the show,” said Ballenger.
In the “multiples” division, Bonnie Luft drove her pair of half Arabs/half Pintos: BJS Devious Chance & BJS Darryon Chance. She won the turnout and the working class with her “girls” on Saturday. Laura Grimes drove her pair of POAs, Tuxey and Snowy. Linda McVicker (910-692-9292), from Southern Pines, NC drove a trandem, three horses abreast: Chip, Mickey, and Daffy
