Mule days are an integral part of spring activities in Columbia, TN. Mule Day, now expanded to “days,” began in Columbia in the early 1800s as breeders Day, when county farmers brought their livestock to Columbia to sell in the spring months. This year’s celebration ran from March 31 to April 6 with every day packed with all kinds of mule-oriented activities. 2014 Mule Day Queen was Brittney Danielle Redden.
There was a wagon train, log loading and old fashioned log pulling competition, a mini mania show, jackpot mule races, a gaited mule show, pony mule and regular mule pulling, a stick mule rodeo, two riding mule shows – everything a mule can do. Plus, there was live music daily – plenty of pickin’ and grinnin’; a Hee Haw chili supper; arts and crafts; square dancing and clogging; an auctioneer contest; and more. If you don’t believe me, you should’a been at the Liars’ Contest on Friday night.
