February 25, 2019 - The Dixie National Quarter Horse Show is a wrap with large classes and fun had by all. The show started on February 5th with the Equestrian With Disabilities events. There were 121 AQHA and 94 NSBA entries, all of the participants had a great time, and a lot of new friends were made.

A special two-judge roping event was held on Tuesday, February 12, with 40 entries in some classes. The Dixie National AQHA event began on Wednesday, February 13 with Working Cow Horse and Boxing continuing with large numbers and the conclusion of roping classes.

Elite Custom Saddlery generously donated rope cans and bags to the winners of every roping class at the horse show.  This is the third year in a row which Elite Custom Saddlery has donated the Andrew McBeath Memorial High Point Cattle Horse saddle, which was awarded to Bobby Lewis and Joseph Harrison and Dual Patron.

The second annual CC Dubois Memorial Tie Down Roping, sponsored by Gary Wells Performance Horses along with Carl and Pam McBeath paid out to the fastest time in the youth and amateur tie-down roping. The reining and ranch riding numbers were large with 30 or more exhibitors in the amateur and youth classes.

Our Equine Expo this year was held on the upper level of the Equine Center and a variety of vendors and well received.

Friday and Saturday included trail, horsemanship, western pleasure & western riding classes. This year, Saturday included our schedule change that allowed for all halter to show in the Equine Center, as well as showmanship and our grandparents favorite leadline and stick horse race.

Friday night, the Wendy’s Freestyle Reining was well attended and included a Frosty eating contest, helping to raise over $2800 for the MQHYA scholarship. Thanks go out to the fine group of individuals who tried very hard to eat very fast. They included Bailey Carwile representing the youth, some of our sponsors: Jamie Swafford with MS Ag, Cliff Mitchell General Manager Watson Quality Ford, Jon Carpenter Owner Elite Custom Saddlery, Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason, and Andy Gipson Commissioner of Agriculture & Commerce, but Tom McBeath, representing the trainers & judges was crowned “Frosty Eating Champion 2019”. And Tim Anderson, VanCleave, MS earned the title of NRHA Open Freestyle Champion.

Saturday also so competition from our 4H groups in the manner of Horse Bowl Competition where Lamar County 4H swept the awards with first I both the Junior and Senior divisions.

Saturday brought the Southern Classic Horse Sale, with 115 horses. The high seller was Reytallica 2013 Stallion sold for $26,000. The sale average was$3,350.00, and the top ten horses’ average was $12,200. We concluded on Sunday with our speed events and hunt seat classes.
