At the 2013 Germantown Charity Horse Show, June 8, just before the $25,000 Grand Prix of Germantown, Michael Tokaruk formally retired his Grand Prix winning Holsteiner jumper, Lord Byron, aka Lordy.
Born February 28, 1994 in a small town in northern Germany, Holsteiner Lord Byron, aka Lordy, was born of the mare Eleisa and sired by the stallion Lerano. His grandsires were exceptional jumper stallions: his dam’s sire is the stallion Ramiro and his sire’s sire is the stallion Lord.
At age 6, Lordy was bought by a 12-year-old girl, Ann Magnus, and eventually was brought to the U.S. to Dave Pellegrini’s barn, Spring Mill Farm in Eads, TN. Trainers Dave and Kelly Mullen schooled Lordy on flatwork and jumping skills, and from 2000 to 2003 Lordy and Ann competed at major shows across the country, with Lordy often over-jumping the 3’6” jumps.
Michael met Lordy at the Devon Horse Show in Devon, PA and was impressed with his style, scope, and heart. In 2003, Michael began showing Lordy and moved to Grands Prix, starting in Gulfport, MS. But in 2004 Lordy was sold by Ann, moved to the northeast where he suffered a suspensory tendon injury.
Michael took a chance on buying the injured Lordy, worked with veterinarians and farriers, and brought Lordy back to soundness.
In 2005 Lordy was showing again, winning the Mini Prix at the Memphis in May show in Germantown, TN. A few months later he won the Grand Prix at the Germantown Charity Horse Show (GCHS). The next two years Lordy won, and placed in, several Grands Prix around the country.
Then his career had a setback in 2010 with equine Lymphangitis. But Michael nursed him back to health, and in 2011 Lordy was back, winning the GCHS Grand Prix, posting an incredible clear round in torrential rain, thunder & lightening!
In 2012 Lordy returned to the GCHS Grand Prix, and at age 18, won the class against tough competition. In 2013, Michael made the decision to retire his hard-working jumper at age 19.
