How about a place with 25 miles of horse trails through hardwood forests of Oak, Sugar Maple, Beech and Tulip Poplar? Would it be nice to have 66 available stalls for your horse or your friends/family’s horses, complete with horse wash bay and ceiling fans? How about campsites with all of the amenities such as showers, electricity, tables, and water hook ups for your living quarters horse trailer or RV, or even better, fully equipped cabin with kitchen and fireplace? Now throw in two lakes with a swimming beach, launch ramp, boat docks, fishing, or paddleboats for rent. Is there golfer in your family? How about a 27-hole golf course? Now, how much would you pay? $19.80 for a campsite, $7.00 for a horse stall? Village Creek State Park on Crowley’s Ride near Wynne and Forrest City, Arkansas is just such a place. Crowley’s Ridge is a unique geological land form with rolling hills consisting of hardwood forests. The soil type, what geologists call Loess, is a fine powder when dry, with very little rock or gravel, quite good for riding trails and unshod horses, but it erodes very easily. The trails are open year round, but are closed if the weather is inclement, as horses can damage the trails when conditions are muddy.
