UT Martin Rodeo Team Scores Well At SAU Women’s rodeo team finished second and the men’s team finished fourth by Joe Lofaro, Athletic Communications Director The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s rodeo team finished second, as the men’s team finished fourth in the Southern Arkansas University (SAU) Rodeo in Searcy, AR. The women’s team recorded 310 points, while the host team SAU won the rodeo with 375 points. On the men’s side, Missouri Valley College racked up 880 points to win the rodeo. West Alabama was second with 660 points, Troy was third with 415 points and UT Martin was fourth with 320 points. Three of UT Martin’s barrel racers scored points. Heather Moore won the event with an average total time of 31.18. She also won the first go with a time of 15.61 and the second go with a 15.57 run. Maggie Wright was fourth in the average with a total time of 32.17. Wright was third in the second go with a time of 15.86. Molly Wright also picked up a couple of points in the barrel racing when she split eighth and ninth. Abby McDuff and Brittany Pratt scored points in the goat tying. McDuff split fifth and sixth in the average, with a total time of 19.2. She was second in the first go with a blistering 8.9 run. Pratt was eighth in the average with a total time of 20.2. On the men’s side UT Martin’s Zach Jackson’s 78-point ride in the first round was good enough to win the average. Jordan Thrasher scored for UT Martin in both the calf roping and team roping. Thrasher was third in the calf roping average with a time of 20.6. He had an 11.0 run and that turned in a 9.6 to finish second in the second go. Thrasher was the healer in the team roping event with teammate Brittany Pratt. The duo was seventh in the average with a total time of 33.0. They recorded a 9.3 in the first go. Casey Cason and Josh Chase worked the bareback riding for UT Martin. Cason was fourth in the average with a total of 131 on two. He also finished second in the second go with a 70-point ride. Chase Miller rounded out UT Martin’s scoring with his fifth-place finish in the saddle bronc average. The UT Martin rodeo teams returned to action Thursday-Saturday, March 25-27 at Northwest Mississippi at Sentatobia.
