GG Farms Barrel Racers At Rodeo of the Mid-South The future lies with the youth - both human and horses Rodeo Clown Lecile Harris wants to re-focus rodeo toward the future. With his friend of 50 years, former Team Penner Phillip Morton, Harris and Morton believe that the future lies with the youth n both human and horses. At the Rodeo of the Mid-South, October 1-3 at the DeSoto Civic Center, Harris organized the event to put youth at the forefront. From the display of up and coming world championship yearlings to 6-year-old Mae Mae Morton, who was the runner-up in the Princess Contest, Harris made sure the young kids and young horses got an opportunity participate in a professional rodeo. Double G Farms (GG Farms) was invited to participate and the kids were very excited to show as the up and coming future barrel racers. Three of Phillip Morton’s granddaughters rode in the rodeo n all barrel racers. In fact, Bailey Morton, age 13, loaned two of her three horses to girls whose horses were “not ready for prime time” rodeo yet. Unfortunately, they beat her time! Although Bailey didn’t have her usual “smokin’ run” on her fastest horse Cooper, she was very excited for her two friends and her other two horses and cheered them on to victory. Nine-year-old Mabry Edwards, three-time NBHA World Champion Qualifier and one-time Finalist, rode Bailey Morton’s horse Lacy and won the first round with a time of 15.2 seconds. This qualified her for the finals on Saturday. Fifteen-year-old Tori Swindle, five-time NBHA World Champion Qualifier and two-time Finalist, rode Bailey’s horse Honey and came in second place with a time of 15.4 seconds. This also qualified her for the finals on Saturday. Sydney Cunningham also made Saturday’s finals. In Saturday’s finals, Tori won third place, and was awarded a Top Five belt buckle. All the girls from GG Farms, and all participants, received belt buckles for their efforts. Victoria and all the girls are very grateful to Lecile Harris and Phillip Morton for the opportunity to participate in a professional rodeo, and they all had a wonderful time! GG Farms is owned and operated by Victoria Montesi. She teaches riding to kids ages 3 and up, and adults as well. She organizes trail rides and horse camps, and there’s always something going on when the kids are out of school.
