The Tennessee Reining Horse Association brought reiners to Memphis, the birthplace of rock’n’ roll music, for the last show of the 2021 season, October 21-24 at the Show Place Arena. Judges were Brian Welman, Ed Bricker, and Pete McAlister, with NRHA Rep Sam Schaffhauser and Show Manager Julia Reece.
New TNRHA President Ronnie Fox was pleased with the turnout. “We filled 260 stalls and have about 180 entries,” he said. Fox is a friendly, easy talking fellow whose voice reminded me of Del McCoury. Fox said they had a lot of folks come from Texas and Arkansas to this show. “It’s a good central location and it’s a great facility,” he said.
Classes started on Thursday with Novice Horse, NRHA Green, and Para Reining. Highlights of Friday’s classes were the Akin Veterinary Services No Pro 7 &Up Maturity with $1500 added money and the $500 added THRHA Rookie Shoot-Out sponsored by Kentucky Lake Trailer Sales. They also had the Futurity for 3-year-olds on Friday night, followed by a barbeque dinner with music from a local band.
Saturday continued with NRHA Green, Youth classes, and Costume Lead Line. Later in the day was the $6500 added Darling 888 Ranch Non Pro Derby and the $6500 added Fallen Pines Farm Open Derby. Sunday’s classes featured the $1500 added Ranch Monsivals Open 7 & Up Maturity, Youth classes, and finished with $500 added Novice Horse.

Taking the win in the Limited and Intermediate Non Pro and second across the board in the Darling 888 Non Pro Derby were Emerson Madonia and This Chic is Dreamy.
Sunday’s Fallen Pines Farm L2 Open Derby Co-Champions and Limited and Intermediate Open winners: The Last Smoking Gun and Jason Torpey for owner Chris Sullivan.
