10th Annual Buck Creek St. Jude Trail Ride 456 Riders Last Year Get ready for a celebration charged with excitement for the weekend of September 26-28, 2008 at the 10th Annual Buck Creek St. Jude Trail Ride and Cattle Drive held in Crockett County, TN. Last year there were nearly 450 horse riders with participants in the thousands and raised over $32000.00 for St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis. This year, we are expecting an even greater crowd to celebrate the tenth year of this ride being held at same location as last year, Weaver Farms at 92 Weaver Road near Alamo, TN. We are incorporating a cattle drive, fast and slow trail ride with hay wagons brought together this year for an awesome event for all to enjoy. The hay wagons will be available for those without a horse. Thanks to donations of lights from NES Rentals and Williams Equipment, both of Jackson, the whole campsite area will look like a miniature city at night. Camping is primitive, so come early for choice campsites and camp all weekend. When you arrive at the entrance gate there will be an entry fee of $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child age 5-12 years. This is the first time ever for a charge. This does cover the entire weekend. Entry fees will be waived for a $100.00 donation per individual or $200.00 donation per family. After entrance, turn in your donation collection at the booth set up inside and your entrance fees will be returned, incentatives given out, and a registration form signed for ride (form must be signed in order to ride). Coggins paper will be strictly enforced at entrance gate, so make sure you have correct paper with you at entrance. You will also receive a schedule of the time for all events for the weekend. On Friday, everyone may ride at their own leisure. Concessions will begin around 5:00pm. Every afternoon Daryl and Kathy Holder will have karaoke. Jim Bohanan High Voltage Band will begin playing at 7:30pm. Saturday morning there will be stock trailers arriving at 6:00am to haul anyone that wants to participate in the Cattle Drive. The cows will be in a pasture 8 miles from the campsite. The stock trailers will carry you and your horse to the cow pasture with the cows leaving this pasture at 8:00am headed for campsite at 92 Weaver Road, with estimated arrival time of 11:30-12 noon. Anyone wanting to be an actual herdsman in the cattle drive is asked to practice each Sunday afternoon before the weekend of the event. Only the herdsmen will be working the cows leading the way with riders following behind in support. Two trail rides, gaited and slow with hay wagons, will leave campsite at 9am together. Once we arrive in field areas, the riders will split with trail bosses to lead the way for the separate rides. Everyone will arrive back at campsite at estimated time of 11:30-12 Noon. At 1:00 pm, the special guest will speak and the auction will begin. Anyone wishing to donate an auction item will be greatly appreciated. After the auction, the kid games began with goat chase, chicken chase, tug of war (2-way & 4-way), calf scramble, and many more. There will also be a Women Only Rodeo with no rules!!! The ladies get to show their talents with bull doggin and bull ridin. Several other games such as the Dunkin Booth and Balloon Toss will be in operation. Jim Bohanan High Voltage Band will be performing an awesome night of great music and dancing. During band breaks, Daryl and Kathy will have karaoke. Approximately 9:30-10:00pm, the band will take a short break and we will present our estimated amount of donations collected for the weekend with a huge sparkler celebration. Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm, the cattle drive will begin taking the cows to their winter destination in Maury City, TN. Transportation will be available to bring riders back to campsite. Concessions will be available all weekend mainly by local charities. Vendors are welcome (advance notice needed for space). Let us never forget that St. Jude treats children without regard to race, religion, creed or ability to pay. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.
