Mid-South Engineer Invents Washing System “Magician Curry Wash” by Don Dowdle After getting tired of washing her pet dog and herself at the same time, a Mid-South engineer invented a washing device that keeps the water and soap on her dog. Jill Marie Embry, who lives outside Seville, Tennessee had a prototype of the device made last year and began testing the device on her dogs and horses. Charlie,the Norwegian Elk Hound doesn’t mind baths now and Jill’s horse that “didn’t take to water” now does much better when getting washed. Knowing there were other owners who didn’t care for getting wet she put her money behind her invention by securing a manufacturer in China to make the product and began a one woman marketing campaign. The product attaches to a garden hose and includes a reservoir for shampoo not unlike some car washing systems. With the “Magician Curry Wash” water and shampoo don’t hit the horse with a stream of water. Three unique curry heads are designed to be used with different type haired animals. The Magician is simply rubbed across the body of the animal as you would when brushing it. Emery said advantages of her washing system include the immediate loosening and rinsing of dirt, loose hair and dead skin. In addition the shampoo is distributed evenly and during the rinsing phase gets water down to the skin. And of course water is conserved during the entire process. Emery’s marketing campaign has led to her “Magician Curry Wash” product to be placed in several national catalogs including Big D and Valley Vet. the next catalogs released by Jeffers, and National Bridal Shop will offer her product. Retailers across the country are being called on in an effort to add the magician to their inventory. Currently the system is available at the TSC store on Hwy. 64 in Arlington, TN and at the Mid-South Farmers Co-op in Somerville. An indoor version with an 8’ cord with a tap connector as also been created. Emery received an undergraduate degree in Biology from De Paul University and did graduate work at Ohio University in Biomedical Engineering and attended Dartmouth Medical school for a while. She moved to Memphis to work with Medtronic three years ago. The company became interested in patents she held and purchased them. That led to her move to rural Eastern Fayette County. And the move to the country prompted her first horse purchase. While attending graduate school she started riding horses and “loved it”. Emery now has six including several walking horses that are in training. The Magician Curry Wash system is sold only to retailers.
