Finefrock Begins Second Year At Shelby Farm Stables April 1 Marks Anniversary by Don Dowdle Caryn Finefrock celebrated her first anniversary of operating the riding stables at Shelby Farms in Memphis on April 1. She expressed enthusiasm with results of the first year of operation and was looking forward to the busy months ahead. The stables were closed for a year before Finefrock was awarded a contract to operate the service by Shelby County. Guided one hour trail rides are offered daily over the 140 acres that encompass the riding area. Three different trails are available to offer variety for riders. Guests at the facility can choose mounts ranging from small ponies to a recently acquired 18h Percheron. This summer summer day camp activities will be offered for youngsters and party ponies are available to be transported to homes in the area for private parties. Finefrock stressed “safety is the number one concern” at the stables. She complimented her small staff of dedicated employees and noted she also had a volunteer program which allowed for riding time in return for chore duties. And with a stable of 44 horses and ponies there are a lot of chores. The ticket office opens at 9:30 am.
